Punishments are official

Jim, glad o see that you remain unchanged. That said, I listened to Spillborg on MLB radio all afternoon. Heard him talking about how the Astros were not WS champions in his eyes. Guys got an unfair advantage. Decided to fact check.

Gurriel in 17: .299 avg / .486 slug / 62 ks
in 19: .298 / .541 / 65

Altuve in 17: .346 / .547 / 84 KS
19: .298 / 550 / 82 KS

Correa '17: .315 / .550 / 92ks
'19: .279 / .568 / 75ks

Springer '17: .283 /.522 /111k
'19: .292 /.591 / 113ks

Bregman '17: .284 / .475 / 97 ks
'19 .296 / .592 / 83ks

Reddick: .314 / .484 / 72ks
.275 / .409 / 66ks

Gonzalez .303 / .530 / 99ks
.264 / .4214 / 98ks

Gurriel, Bregman and Springer were all clearly better last season. Altuve’s power numbers were better and his ks were same. Correa’s numbers are injury impacted. Marwins are impacted by both change of team and park. So only Reddick could be seen to have significantly benefitted, and Josh while important, isn’t core to the offense.

Just a little fodder for everyone as we live through the beatdown on Twitter. In truth, we cheated And equally true, to little to no impact.

Wonder if MLB looked at the stat sheet before handing the franchise a death penalty?

Perfect example. Even if you know what pitch is coming, you still have to have the talent to hit it first. These idiots think that just because you have an idea as to what pitch is coming, it will be an automatic homerun or extra base hit. That’s just simply not the case. It didn’t matter that Marwin might have knew what pitch was coming off of Jansen in the ‘17 WS. The man still had to have the talent to hit it out. What about our pitching? They still had to lock the other team down. This is all so ridiculous. It’s all stemmed from a bunch of crybabies in New York and Los Angeles. I’m sure they were stealing signs too.

Who gives a shit what’s in Spillborg’s eyes?

If the analytics people looked at it with the detail they look at the shift or curve spin-rate you might see something. Not relevant to the punishment because they were warned and knew others were being punished for similar things.

This hasn’t been said enough, IMO.

Just got an alert that Cora has been dismissed by the Red Sox.

Mutual agreement was the alert I got.

I’m skeptical.

Marwin’s homer was in LA. Were the Astros cheating there also?

“We’re going to fire you.”

“OK if I quit?”

“Whatever.”

“Resign or be fired” is pretty common.

“Mr Cora, you can either be dismissed or relieved of you duties, it’s your choice.”

One of the things my baseball friend said about what happened yesterday was: “This is just chapter one.”

Imagine he’s done in baseball.

Curious to see if Boston loses picks too.

My first thought is “fucking better be similar punishment,” but not holding my breath.

Red Sox trying to get out in front of it and curry favor with Manfred.

While I’m beefing, Luhnow claiming he is not a cheater sounds exactly like what a cheater would say. He should have just said something along the lines of, “I should have been more stringent in my overseeing of that side of the baseball operations, I let my guard down and was unaware of what was happening” and left it at that.

No doubt.

Plus by the time the promised exhaustive investigation concludes pitchers and catchers will have reported.

I suspect MLB wants to keep this limited ri the Astros and Cora. With Dombrowski and Cora gone they may get away with it.

Unless someone sings like a canary.

Similarly, when people here are saying “everybody cheats” all I can think of are the fans of dirty college teams who’ve parroted the same thing after their school gets hit with major infractions.

You missed the point of at least my comments. That others have done the same thing does not excuse the Astros’ behavior; it does demand equal scrutiny and equal punishment.
