My spine tingles just thinking about somebody cutting on my eyeballs, but I suspect it’s in my future.
My brother had some sort of fucked up eye surgery where they sutured his eyeballs and it still freaks me out just thinking about it. He was awake for it, needless to say. There aren’t enough drugs in the world for me to just lie there while some asshole sews up my eyes. Yeah, no.
Mrs Hawk had cataract surgery last year. She freaked over it for months, then it was easy peasy in about 20 minutes.
Two side of the same coin: my mom had cataract surgery and feels like she has a new lease on life afterwards. A friend of mine had lasik and they laser-shaved so much of his cornea off that his upper eyelid has nothing to “rest” on so he has a perpetual droopy eyelid.
We celebrate my mom. We are unmerciless in our teasing of my friend.
Mrs Hawk’s only complaint was that everything was too clear and bright. I said this is how the rest of the world sees. She said “it’s annoying how bright the colors are”.
I watched my ex-gf get her lasik done on both eyes, they had it on TV monitors in the waiting room. It was creepy and cringey as fuck just to watch them slice the outside layer of an eyeball off and then shoot lasers on it.
Only recovery advice the doc gave her was “don’t touch them, don’t rub them”. I ductaped oven mitts on her hands for a few days. She was not enthused about my plan, but it worked.
Not helping.
I try.
Just watch the programming scene from A Clockwork Orange to calm your nerves.
Had LASIK three years ago. The knowledge of what they’re doing is freaky, but going through it really is super easy. I suspect the same is true of a lot of these eye surgeries.
My daughter is doing her residency in veterinary ophthalmology. They are doing more and more cataract surgery on dogs as they live longer and people also spend more on their pets. She deals with much more eye injuries and diseases than cataracs but it is being done.
Follow that with “An Andalusian Dog”, the 1929 French silent short film directed, produced, and edited by Luis Buñuel and co-written by Salvador Dali. The film’s most famous scene depicts a man sharpening a razor and slicing open a woman’s eye, a sequence inspired by a dream Buñuel had.
My beard trimmer just crapped out, thankfully I was 95% done when it happened. I now have a “good side” and a “worse side”
Anyone have a good rec for one (brand/model/whatever/etc)? Amazon is a minefield of junk that I have no interest in navigating.
Not sure this fits here, but it’s not worth its own thread:
I’ve got what I’m pretty sure is a raccoon that’s really tearing up my yard. I’ve been in this house 11+ years and never had a problem before, but I’ve sure got one now. Yes, I know that he’s probably doing it because he’s had some success finding grubs, and the real solution is to eradicate the grubs so the raccoon has no more incentive to dig here. That’s a longer-term program for which I’d also like advice, but is there a practical short-term deterrent I can use? Lead poisoning is not an option where I live.
Phillips Norelco MG9510 is what I use
Cage/relocate is what we’ve done.
If it’s just the yard (right?) it’s squirrels burying nuts and such. Then the others (varmints have smells, racoons don’t dig) will come back and try find them.
My yard when I walked around earlier, looked like a miniature artillery range. Tiny holes
everywhere.
Braun 5808 Autosense ain’t bad
I use the MG5970 to buzz my head and like it quite a bit. I just wish Norelco would ditch their proprietary cables and finally switch to USB-C, or at least decide on one charging port. I have a Norelco shaver and two Norelco trimmers, all fairly recent, and none of the cables are interchangeable.
Sounds like armadillos. Normally I’m a live and let live kind of guy, at least until i get fucked with. They used to tear up my yard. I would wake up to triangle shaped divots all over my yard. I got up early one morning before the sun came up and the poor creatures were just hanging out and didn’t seem to pay me any mind. I used the .22 caliber lead poisoning method on a couple before they could shuffle off. Another time, I followed one to its hole/burrow, and laid a hunk of plywood over it and piled about 50 pounds of dirt on it. Buried alive. They haven’t been a problem lately, probably because of the drought killing so much of the grass in the yard. I do have a tiny amount of self-hate and guilt over my cruel methods, but they shouldn’t have chosen my yard to fuck around in.
I’ve had a problem with raccoons in the past and was able to trap and relocate. Trapping was the easy part. Relocating and removing from the trap wasn’t easy because 'coons can be fucking uncooperative bastards and mean assed sons of bitches.
