I have two:

I like the latter better, but they are both good. I prefer a wet/dry cordless model, so they are not the cheapest, but the latter has help up well for many years now (just bought the former for my apt in Midland). They are easy to clean and the charge lasts for months.

Sounds like armadillos to me too. I’ve never seen a raccoon dig like that, but a fucking armadillo will tear your yard up overnight.
Surely will. So will wild hogs, but hopefully that’s not a problem in your hood.
Unfortunately, feral hogs are a problem in lots of Houston area residential neighborhoods.

Are you sure it’s not skunks. We have raccoons, possums, skunks, and foxes running around like crazy (I live next to a nature preserve). The skunks are always digging little holes looking for grubs.
Could be skunks, but I’ve never seen (or smelled, and I’ve got a sensitive nose) them around here. Dillos are the most logical, but again, I’ve not seen them here. I know there possums (I’ve seen them on quite a few occasions) and raccoons (I’ve seen them and I’ve got their tracks in soft areas). I also get scat in the yard that’s got all kinds of stuff in it, as I would expect from scavengers like raccoons. Could be a fox, too, I suppose; I’ve seen them before (even in my garage once).
I set up a trail cam next to a relatively fresh and large hole on the hill in my backyard a couple of weeks ago. It caught a skunk near the hole a couple of nights, a raccoon on another night, and the neighbor’s cat walking by on several days. So I still don’t know what made the hole.
If it still hasn’t been filled then I reckon it was the government.

Conversation in the other thread reminds me: I’ve got a broken garage door spring, anybody in Houston got a good repair guy?
Not sure what part of town you’re in, but I’ve used KTM Door Control up in the Klein area. They were great. I had to have them replace the entire track and rail system (cause it got out of square and level over the years), along with the door and opener. Not sure of their service area. I’ve also replaced springs myself, but that’s a potentially dangerous job, so if you’re not comfortable, best to hire the pros.

Last year we diverged in the Republic thread briefly into jeans.
Does anyone have any updates, i.e did you find a decent pair, roughly how much did they cost etc?
I don’t need stretch or special cuts or pinstripes or a waist that lies 8 inches below my belly button.
I just need some good ol jeans that aren’t thin pieces of crap like modern Levi’s.
(I have some good flannel lined jeans from LL Bean. I could try their non-lined variety but I thought I’d check in here again).

501 shrink to fit Levi’s are still fairly rugged and wear well, fit me nice, but not tough enough for hard outside manly work like chain sawing, fence repair, operating a rototiller or posthole digging. I would not bother with anything else Levi claims as jeans because every thing else is truly crap. When I worked as a telephone lineman I would buy the cheapest pair of Wrangler Boot cut rigid blue jeans but they’ve too have increased prices. When I have a tough or dirty job, I wear a pair of “Liberty” bib overalls.

I own a few pairs of Flint & Tinder’s standard jeans that I wear to the winery. I don’t the type of manual labor Sphinx is talking about, but they hold up pretty well, even if they’re only 13.5 oz denim - i.e. not as sturdy as the Carhartts Lefty mentioned.
Looked them up, they’re a bit more expensive now (what isn’t) and I don’t think the all cotton version is made in the USA. Still good jeans:
I have a pair of Toughskins from when I was 16. When I have really tough yard work (brushhogging, chainsawing downed trees, etc…), I’ll squeeze into them. They remain indestructible 40+ years later.
I think you can still get some on eBay. Tough and stylish too!
Anybody have a window cleaning squeegee they recommend?
