WVASTRO:
My experience with Cole is likely different than most here.
I vividly remember a start he had where the astros batted around in an inning and were really laying it on. Cole was throwing a fit in the dugout. Like actually in a few peoples faces and yelling. I didn’t understand it at the time, but now I do wonder if he was upset at the actions that his current team, the Astros; plus the Red Sox, Yankees and likely others were engaged in.
I have reserved judgement on him until hear his story.
I haven’t. He’s a hall of fame dickhead.

My first sentence was key. I know I’m alone on this but it is what I saw.
I also didn’t really give a fuck. He helped the astros win a WS. That was all I needed from him.

How did Gerrit Cole help the Astros win a World Series? They didn’t win one during his time with the team.

You may have him confused with Verlander from 2017. But he is beloved here. Cole joined the team in 2018 and left just before speaking to the press after game 7 of the 2019 World Series.

I guess one could claim that Cole helped the Astros reach the World Series in 2019 but the same can be said of Joe Biagini or Cy Sneed.

My ambivalence of antipathy swung this way as well. Between Cashman’s hilarious whining and Fernando’s passing, it seemed karma was on the Dodgers side.
And then I saw all the Gibson 1988 references and I really fucking hate Kirk Gibson.

I didn’t know anyone threw a screwball anymore (Mike Magnante? is the last one I remember), this is a good read:
LOS ANGELES -- Last summer in San Diego, with the Dodgers in town for a series, Brent Honeywell, then a Padres reliever, got a heads up from pitching coach Ruben Niebla.
Fernando Valenzuela was on the warning track in front of the dugout.

He forgot the part where at spring training after that World Series, he shoved a little kid in to the dirt and laughed at him when that kid had the audacity to ask for an autograph.

Hesitant to chime in here after making an ass out of myself… but I’m gunna rub some dirt on it.
We have an interesting game happening. 1-1 t3
