Postseason 2024

Well, with the Astros Postseason effort as pretty as a turd in a punch bowl, figured we can talk about the rest of the league. I’ll be watching because I love baseball. I’m kinda stupid that way.

Orioles tie it up, but leave the bases loaded in the 5th. Royals retake the lead. 2-1 Royals in the T7

I will be watching as well, even with the hole in my heart. Baseball is the best, even when it does the worst to you.

There will be a huge void from now to ST now that the Astros’ season is done, and I’ll watch the postseason, but more than anything, hoping the fucking Evil Empire or hated dojers don’t win this thing.

And the Royals are moving on…swept the Orioles.

I’m not exactly thrilled at the moment… but how bent do Orioles fans have to be right now after these last two postseasons?

Maybe the ALC didn’t get in just because they beat up on the White Sox. Maybe they are actually pretty good teams

For whatever reason, that lessens the sting for me just a tiny tiny bit.

The Astros scored as many runs as the Royals and are out. The Orioles get 1 run in 2 games. Ouch. Especially since they are a team thag was carried by their offense

That’s 2 bitter pills in 2 postseasons for the O’s.

162 just got a lot longer in 2025.

The Royals are the first team to lose 100 games and then win a postseason series the following year.

Two big screens in my living area, the biggest one for the Astros, and a slightly smaller one for any side project that isn’t as important. Once the Astros have been eliminated, baseball in general becomes the side project. I have been an Astros fan since they were the Colt 45s, and don’t give 2 shits and a bowl of oatmeal for what happens in any of the games after they have exited stage left.

The silver lining for me when the Astros are eliminated is that I get to watch playoff baseball just for the joy of it. All the drama and none of the angst and ulcers. And if I have something important to do I can walk away no problem.

This.
One of my buddies from Flight School is from San Diego and a huge Padres fan. I found myself watching his game and just sitting back and watching without any issue.
Also, some things around my house will now get done

Good for you, Carson. Once the Astros are done, my interest wanes, and I just don’t make time for baseball anymore. With college and pro football percolating, and basketball on the horizon, I will be devoting many more wasted hours in those directions for the next 4 months as we lumber towards Spring Training.

I can’t get excited about football until the World Series is over. And the best thing about the Super Bowl is its proximity to the opening of Spring Training.

Wasn’t it Rogers Hornsby who once said: “People ask me what I do in winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.”? Or maybe someone else of his generation?

Hornsby is who I’ve heard it attributed to.

Ditto to all. 1962 for me also.

Oddly enough, I became a fan in 1962 also, though it was another year before I showed up in Texas. My Dad & I played a dice baseball game of his invention – nothing fancy and not based on actual statistics, but we did play with actual National League teams. I had Pit, Mil, LA, & Chi; he had StL, Phi, SF, & Cin. With expansion, I chose Hou (based on “Colt 45s”) and he got NY. By 1964 or 65, I was way too sophisticated to be playing dice games with my Dad all the time, and I graduated to APBA with my friends. But Dad & I played a full schedule of home-and-home 4-game series for each “season” and had gotten several years into the future by the time we quit.

My job, beginning in 3rd grade, was to keep all the statistics. I got really good at calculating batting averages and ERAs, and I can still beat a calculator when adding (or even averaging) a long column of numbers.
