Last year after the LDS round, the best team in baseball was widely acknowledged to be the Houston Astros.

The playoffs needed to be expanded because 60 isnāt enough games to truly judge a major league baseball team. The Nationals record after 60 games last year was 27-33. I bet almost every playoff team for the past 30 years has a 60 game stretch that was mediocre and many probably even had bad stretches. Obviously we know the Astros were 15-30 (25-35 after 60) to start the 2005 season, etc.
Any whining about our record over 60 games is just thatā¦whining. 60 games is just the best MLB (apparently) could do for a regular season, so this is what they decided to do rather than have potentially good teams get eliminated early. (Nevermind the fact that there were also essentially 3 separate Major Leagues this yearā¦East, Central, and West Leagues.)
The Yankees wouldnāt have made a normal playoff slate this year either, but Iām sure the articles about that outrage are just getting lost in the dark web.
