I have been listening to the new season of Michael Lewis’s Against the Rules podcast. Season one was about Referees and season two is about coaching. While I have enjoyed all episodes, the season 2 episode Don’t Be Good - Be Great is about his experience with his high school baseball coach. It is well worth the listen.
Trigger Warning - the season 2 episode the Data Coach takes a swipe at the Astros (how easy it is to cross the line when you are trying to get a data edge) but the conversation with Kyle Boddy from Drive Line baseball is worth it.
Agreed, it’s a quality podcast and the one on his coach, Fitz, IIRC was memorable.
Regarding driveline, I try to at least be acquainted with this stuff but was surprised to learn the simplicity of identifying those who can most be helped: low expected pitch velocity relative to arm speed.
The only podcast I’ve ever heard is one my wife listens to. It’s these two foul-mouthed women laughing at various gruesome murders. It’s quite disturbing in many ways.
My wife has this fascination with crime stories. She watches some channel on tv, which I just call the “Murder Channel”, and likes to read true-crime books and novels. I sleep with one eye open.

This is true for any “reality” show as well. For the first few seasons, I watched those yahoos on Oak Island looking for treasure. I read the same stories they did, and saw Mr Spock talk about it on “In Search of…”. It’s a fun story. But 1) they are complete idiots, and 2) the whole season could be reasonably boiled down to a 1-hour show.
And I asked Mrs Hawk about her podcasts. Her favorites are “My Favorite Murder”, “My Dad Made a Porno”, and “Deck the Hallmark”. Only the latter is PG rated.
I started to think the same thing about the new Skinwalker Ranch series about 3 episodes in. They never seem to get anything done and are seriously dragging it out. And now the season is over–so that means another 10 dragged out episodes where the woo opinions of a grown man that goes by the name Dragon gets to overrule scientists.
I finally found another person who watches Oak Island. Despite its good viewership numbers, you are the first person I’ve ever heard admit to watching it. I found it around mid season 1 and have watched every episode since. I can’t quit it.
I watched every episode up until this most recent season. I’ve lost interest. I watched in a train wreck sort of way, wondering why don’t these idiots just spend $5,000 and drop a down-hole camera down borehole 10x? One of them claims to be in the oil business, but appears to know as much about subsurface as your average short order cook at the Waffle House. Then we wonder in great amusement and anticipation at why they find 18th century artifacts on 18th century farm land. Could it be from the Knights Templar? It could be, but more likely it was from the people who lived there at the time. At the end of the day, it’s the Knights Templar conspiracy bullshit that has turned me off the most. I’d be more interested if they thought it was aliens.
