Apparently, the secret is to have DirectTV. Or, so I found out last night.
Maybe he has VeryDirecTV?
Exactly. Streaming? I ain’t got time to wait that long.
I’ll take back most of the bad things I’ve said about Fertitta if he gets the Coyotes to Houston.

I would love that. I always feel a bit compromised rooting for the Blues and Stars. If Houston had their own team, I would throw all my loyalty behind them.
I have tried to get into hockey. I’ve tried real hard. Just can’t.
Adopt a team during the playoffs.
With luck they’ll advance and you’ll get to witness the intensity dial spinning out of control with each game.

And after that, if possible, go see them play live. That’ll hook ya.
It helps if you’ve ever tried to ice skate before. After that, you’ll marvel at how effortlessly and unconsciously they move about the ice.
The “live is better than TV” factor is far greater in hockey than any other sport.

I’ve been to live hockey games (I used to work with a bunch of Canucks). Didn’t help.
How anyone can enjoy soccer and not love hockey is beyond my ability to understand how people’s brains work.

This is true. When we had the Aeros here like 20 years ago we used to go a lot and it’s 1000x better in person than on TV.
I get the confusion. I am in the same boat as Limey, in that I love soccer but don’tcare about hockey. I never liked soccer growing but got into it around 10 or 11 years ago, through Fifa and football manager. For whatever reason, I never picked up a hockey game, and nobody in my life really cared about hockey, so I just never got into. I feel now as though my plate is pretty full when it comes to sports, and there is no more space in my brain for hockey. I can’t really be a casual fan of a sport, I have to really get into it in order to enjoy it. That’s how I can enjoy soccer but not care about hockey

I guess the answer is, “try not to.”
I developed an interest in hockey as a kid. Had one of those table hockey games with the sliding rods under the table that moved the players above the table and you’d twist the rods to make a player swing his stick and push and pull the rods to move the player along the “ice”. For a few years in the mid to late 60s, every Friday night channel 13 ABC had Hockey Night in Canada after the 10:00 news and I would watch it. I remember seeing Stan Mikita, Gordie Howe, Phil Esposito, Bobbies–Orr and Hull.
Years later, Wayne Gretzky sure got my attention. He was to Hockey what Tiger Woods was to golf. However, it wasn’t until I moved to St Louis in the mid 80s that I really followed the game consistently and rooted for a team. Going to games at the old St Louis Checkerdome was an unique experience. I became a Brett Hull fan and started following the Stars when he was signed by them and lead them to a Stanley Cup Championship. It has always amazed me the great skill level of the athletes and they do it all on skates!

It way more than 20 years ago, at least for the WHA Aeros. I loved the games at the Sam Houston Coliseum with Griff’s Aeros Army. I’m a two-time winner of the “Aeros Fan Salute” radio ticket giveaway . I loved that league and some of the team names like the Minnesota Fightin’ Saints. I was pissed when the NHL passed over the Aeros when they absorbed the WHA.
The conditioning of hockey players is otherworldly.
