In my opinion, neither of those guys were world class. They were good keepers who wouldn’t commit the sort of blunder we saw last night, but nobody was falling over themselves to try to nab them for league play.
So do we really need an official mean-mugging a player in this situation while handing out the yellow card?

A classmate of mine in college waited on Micheal Caine at a Pappadeaux’s.
He said he kept cool the whole time and and the end of the meal told him the he was fantastic in Victory.
Caine smiled and murmured something about ‘one of my lesser known roles’.

Now that’s funny
After reading and listening to analysis, and thinking about what of it lines up with my own thoughts, I thought I’d jot these down:
- Teams tend to take on the personality of their best player, and Christian Pulisic is soft as hell. He’s never once shown up big in a big game, and even before his injury yesterday, he was moving slowly and getting constantly knocked off the ball.
- The adjectives you frequently hear tied to the USMNT for years have been “soft” and “entitled”. My first point goes to that first term, and the second was closely associated with what you saw in the Türkiye game: the gap between this team’s starters and reserves was enormous. Combine that with the guys like Adams, Dest, McKinnie, and Pulisic having been told for years that they were the “golden generation”, it’s no wonder they felt entitled - nobody ever remotely challenged for their jobs.
- For as good as their group stage was, nothing less than a close loss to a superior opponent in the round of 16 would have been acceptable for this team. Belgium’s not superior to the degree of a Spain or a France, and the team still didn’t look like they belonged on the same pitch as Belgium.
- On that point - how the hell did Poch not have this team tactically ready to play? They got routed by this team three months ago and did nothing to adjust!
- Poch doesn’t need to return for the next cycle. Find the next guy quickly, lock him in for all 4 years, stick with him.
- If those “golden generation” players all have starting jobs in 2030, we’re screwed. Better, younger players need to be pushing for these jobs.
- Balogun, Tillman, Freeman, Berhalter, Richards - that’s your core for 2030. Build around them.
- As Doyce said, they seriously need a keeper to step up.
- This team really had the country rallying around soccer for once. The game last night was the most watched soccer game in US history. I just hope their dogshit showing didn’t totally throw away that progress.

England is kicking la pelota around like they’re up 3-0. This is the first England game I’ve seen in a long time so maybe that’s their strategy.
