Everyone my age or thereabouts knows this version. It never occurred to me that there was a predecessor, but one day I’m driving down the road in Panama minding my own business and the version I submitted comes on the radio.

Since then I have accumulated any number of records, compilations, of Panamanian Combos Nacionales as the sort of funky part Latin part Caribbean musical groups of the 70’s are called. They are uniformly excellent. Anything you see on Tamayo Records is worth investigating. Or just search Combos Nacionales.
