The consensus on the F1 movie seems to be that it is incredibly well made and visually/audibly stunning, but the plot is a steaming pile of trite Hollywood garbage that could’ve been written by ChatGPT.
I am not shocked by this at all.

This year, instead of subscribing to ESPN to watch F1, I subscribed to the F1 service. It costs about the same as ESPN over the same time span, but it’s obviously just F1 so you don’t get any other content (although in prior years I have found that I didn’t watch ESPN for anything other than F1).
No commercials is a huge win; everything on the F1 service is ad-free. Not even ads for the F1 movie that have been in your face everywhere else for the last year at least. Also, proper, low-compression 4K video makes everything look amazing.
And now that I have a 7.1 sound system, I was looking forward to experiencing F1 in surround sound. But it seems that the Apple TV app offers only 2.0 sound. WTF? Yep, on certain platforms (including Samsung, btw), the sound is only stereo.
Presumably this will get fixed at some point but, for now, I am pissed that I don’t have something that I didn’t have before but am now owed like it’s a human right.
Pro-Tip: Don’t point mics at soccer players singing their national anthem.
They played like dogshit in the second half. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen them look that disorganized. As you said, they should have gone into halftime up 4-0. Maybe more. When you have only a single goal’s separation, all kinds of stupid shit can happen. And it didn’t help that they went straight to penalties, because all you need to doom yourself to failure is one idiot who sends the ball rocketing over the goal and into outer space, and Panama has more than one such idiot.
Canada bows out to Guatemala in PKs.
USMNT Costa Rica up next
Chris Richards’ passing is accurate and insightful.
FYI, I’m claiming Sebastian Berhalter as another product of the Concrete Catalonia, as he was born while his dad was playing for Crystal Palace.
Man I thought he was going to save that. Stupid penalty to give away gets properly punished.
[Stephàn] This game has everything…
That was a very concacaf-y first half
This game has been a little chippy. Second half should be fun.
That did not take long.
Penalty Shoot Out
On second thoughts…
Fuck!
Downs wins it.
That was fun, that we were doomed when it went to PKs and they had Navas. Young Freese was outstanding. Looking forward to Wednesday
UEFA had assured us that a decision on Palace’s place in the Europa League (UEL) was to be made by month end. Well, now that the month end est arrivé, they have kicked the can down la rue. Now they are saying that the decision is postponed pending Lyon’s appeal against its demotion from Ligue 1 for financial shitbaggery.
I think there are two ways to read this:
A. Palace’s UEL place is contingent on Lyon losing its appeal; or
B. UEFA is desperate not to make a decision, hoping that the Lyon appeal fails; or
C. A little from Column A and a little from Column B.
This against the backdrop of Textor selling his entire stake in Palace and resigning from the board of Lyon (albeit still being the majority shareholder).
Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest’s position in any European competition into which UEFA decides to promote them is rock solid because the owner, Evangelos Marinakis, promised formally, in writing, by a particular date, that he’s forgotten he owns an entire football club. Honest.
