Not sure what a comparable Championship would be, I’ve seen the RocketsX2, the Horns, the StrosX2…
I will absolutely lose my shit if the Texans ever win a Super Bowl, and the more I think about it i’d rather UH win a hoops title than UT

I was amazed at the Astros’s first WS, but I merely adopted the Astros. The Palace…I was born in it.
Ever wondered what it is like to be on the field after a trophy win? To climb the steps to the Royal Box to collect a winner’s medal?
John-Philippe Mateta is a cat of a different stripe.
H-town baby
Started a re-watch of the final last night but wasn’t able to stay awake to finish even the first half. What I will say is that ESPN’s comms team is pretty poor. John Champion just blithers on and I hate Jim Beglin with the fire of a thousand suns. His “color” is simply to point out what we all saw and, when he does decide to offer a “take”, he gets it wrong.
Also, and most criminally, they all-but mute the stadium sound to block out any atmosphere that may be happening. I was proud to say that you can hear us push through the volume control much of the time, but it’s a disservice to the watching public to deny them such a key part of the game-day experience.
As the Holmesdale Fanatics’ tifo said:
We did shake Wembley and it was beautiful.
I remember thinking that the second goal was the loudest cheer of the day. I think it went:
1. Second (disallowed) Goal
2. Penalty Save
3. First Goal
4. Final Whistle
Palace fans having an absolute blast at Selhurst. Joel Ward is making his final appearance after 13 years with the club and putting in a time-warping performance. Many of the squad players - notably the youngsters - are having their first substantial minutes in the Premier League. Ben Chillwell scored his first goal for about 2 years. Nketiah has netted 2.
Completely incidentally, the score is 3-2.
When the samba music starts to play
Dance with me, make me sway
Matteaus França running down the wing
Scoring goals, makes the Palace sing
Joel Ward is given the privilege of being a solo substitution. Not a dry eye in the house as he makes his farewell to Selhurst Park.
Shortly thereafter, with some of the non-regular starters running out of gas, Glasner brings on Mateta and Eze. Moments later Eze scores because of course he does.
This will take Palace to 52 points, eclipsing our previous Premier League high water mark of 49.
As the clock ticked to 90 minutes, an added time of 6 minutes was announced to a genuine cheer from the Palace fans. No one wants this night to end.
FTR, Palace’s highest points total in the top flight of English football was the 1990/91 season following our first ever FA Cup final appearance. We earned 69 points (nice) over 38 games to finish 3rd behind Arsenal and Liverpool.
Back then, the champion went into what became the “Champions League” (hence the name) and the runner-up went into the UEFA Cup, the equivalent of today’s Europa League, and that was it for European qualification. Liverpool was banned from Europe at the time due to the Hysel stadium disaster, and so Palace had earned its first ever trip to Europe.
But then UEFA decided that Liverpool had suffered enough and lifted the ban. Tough not to feel slighted by that decision; would they have done that if it was Man Utd in 3rd instead of Palace?
I think that’s because UH has paid its hoops dues.
ETA: Palace has paid its dues. Congrats Limey!
That may be in my 10 favorite movies, right after Seven Samurai, The General, and Lawrence of Arabia, and right before Amarcord.
My favorite stupid movie of all time. So brilliant.
The General is the only stupid movie that is better.
What’s in the flask, Egg, magic potion?
Yeah
Good, thought so. What do we do, drink it?
Yeah.
Thought so, good.
Hey, I’m a reasonable guy but I’ve just experienced some very unreasonable things.
Sonofabitch. Must pay.
