The Scotland - England six nations match was fantastic, and ended in classic fashion: glorious failure for the Scots.

Plus ça meme choses, as they love to say in Scotland.

Rashford with two assists.

Liverpool with a 2-0 lead over Man City at the break.

I hate Liverpool, but any misery heaped on Citeh gets a thumbs up from me.

Meanwhile, Newcastle and Forest put on a show in the early game.

3-0 now.

VAR reverses goal for offsides.

Liverpool was just toying with them.

A full slate of Premier League matches this week - Tues thru Thurs - as this weekend it is back to the FA Cup for those of us still in it. Thus Liverpool players get to enjoy a weekend off. I’m not saying that Palace fans are already looking past Tuesday’s visit of Villa but, at the Fulham game on Saturday, they spent much of the time telling Millwall to [checks notes] “fuck off!”

The FA Cup is all on ESPN+ and, cleverly (if you’re watching on TV) or annoyingly (if you’re a fan in attendance) all the games have an independent time slot. One Friday, four on Saturday, two Sunday and one Monday. Not sure there is much other major sport happening this weekend, so it might be worth burning the free trial of ESPN+ if you haven’t already.

The Palace-Millwall thing is about (a) proximity and (2) relatively recent coexistence in the same leagues. Charlton tries to claim that we care more about our rivalry with them than anyone else, to which we reply “what rivalry?” Still, the last time we were in the same league as Millwall was the 2012-13 season, when they finished 20th (of 24) and we got promoted (as documented in “When Eagles Dare”).

We have played each other once since, in the FA Cup in 2021 when we beat them 2-1 at their place and they pelted our players with debris from the stands. Scientists should study the suspension of evolution that exists in that corner of South London.

A moment now made immortal:

Big win at home: 4-1 over Europe-chasing Villa. Only allowed two shots on target all game (after allowing none for Fulham on Saturday). Conversely, Palace got off 19 shots, 6 on target, 4 went in. Chris Richards is a big part of the defensive solidity, and got an assist for our first goal today.

Palace now only 8 points off the European places, and 11 points off 3rd. Basically you can throw a sombrero over the 10 teams behind Arsenal. Given that the title is done and relegation all-but done, the mid-table squabble for a place in Europe is going to be the interest in the remaining games.

Ipswich leading at Old Trafford. Wow.

Quoting Inspector Clousseau: “Not anymore.”

When I hear that phrase, I always think of Hannibal Lecter referencing Multiple Miggs.

Arsenal draw while Liverpool sitting 2-0 up over Newcastle at home. That’ll leave Liverpool with a 13-point lead in the title race.

Title race was over when Havertz and Martinelli were added to the ridiculous injuries this season and Arsenal didn’t sign any reinforcement during the January window. They are currently starting a defensive mid at the 9.

Leicester losing 2-0 at halftime at West Ham. Impossible to see any of the bottom three saving themselves. It would take Wolves going pointless for the balance of the season and one of Leicester or Ipswich significantly picking up the pace.

Lately Ipswich at least seem capable of scoring occasionally, so there’s a tiny chance that they might do something. Leicester snd Southampton are toast.

Given that Palace play Ipswich next in the league, I hope their losing continues.

Strange month coming up. Palace have FA Cup duty this weekend, Ipswich in the league on March 8th, and then no game scheduled until April 2nd. There’s an international break, but also our March 15th game has been rearranged because we were supposed to be playing one of the Carabao Cup finalists.

So we have nearly a month off, Southampton on April 2nd and then have to turn around and play Brighton on two days’ rest.
