News & Notes from the AL West

Two weeks ago, I would have shared the same dream. Now, nasomuch. Now that sticky spider tack is not part of JV’s arsenal, I don’t see that happening since the new, tighter grip required would put an inordinate amount of stress on the newly repaired elbow and, if he chooses not to grip tighter to safeguard that elbow, he’ll not be the same pitcher. Especially in a reliever role where they go harder and shorter.

From a guy not exactly making Francisco Lindo money (no he’s certainly not hurting and yes he’s probably got endorsement deals out the wazoo in Japan)…

Don’t look now but the Mariners are only 1.5 behind the A’s for the second WC spot.

Yeah just noticed that they were closing they gap today.

The Mariners are a strange case. Eight games over .500 and closing in on the wild card, yet they have a -52 run differential.

Terrible but timely offense (their offense ranks in the bottom 2 with the Rangers in just about everything important), 3ish good starters, very good bullpen, and some luck.

23-8 in 1-run games
9-1 in extra innings
8-2 in walkoffs

Just 59 games this season for the Rice and Lamar HS-ex…

No Gurriel again tonight.

And only 36 games for Trout. Angels are snake bit.

The last couple of years, I’ve thought man, if the Angels just get some pitching and with a healthy Ohtani, they’re gonna be tough to beat. They got a healthy Ohtani and some pitching, then lost Trout and Rendon. Snake bit, indeed.

I don’t worry about them. We (Astros fans) have our own problems.

Thanks for nothing, Cleveland.

17-0.

ETA Here it is in all its glory:

That was hard to try to figure out before clicking on the video. Fun exercise, but my guess was wrong.

Mine too.

My favorite scenario involved a rundown between 3B and the LF foul pole.

In a law firm softball game, one of my teammates, who was a Korean-American US-born lawyer, got into a rundown between the SS position and the LF fence. Hilarious. When he returned to the dugout, my comment was “Have you ever even SEEN a baseball game?”

Dude this was the Red Sox, not the Pirates.

Once in Denial League, we doubled a guy off of 1B after a flyout to LF. It was scored F7 then 7-6-3-8-5-2-3. Pitcher’s best friend, indeed.

Was the second baseman just busy with other things at the time?
