It was pretty surreal that Crane was awarded “executive of the year” at the Houston Sports Awards last night in the wake of his GM and manager being suspended and his front office officially called out as toxic.
Hinch will manage again, if he wants, probably sooner than later. Teams will line up to get him in their organization.
They probably had to scratch Jeff Luhnow’s name off the trophy, since he almost certainly would have gone 3 for 3 in winning it before getting fired.
Almost every comment I r read has said that Hinch can have a job, if he wants it, as soon as his suspension is over.
The only apology I would like to hear is the players to Hinch.
Whether that happens or not won’t affect my pulling for them to kick the shit out of the competition.
IMO Hinch’s charisma will likely quickly get him over pretty much all of the ramifications from this, but IMO as far as the Astros go (Cora and any Red Sox issues are a different matter) he is the most deserving of what he got.
The Mets hired Luis Rojas (brother of Moises Alou) to be their manager. Promoting from within.
I am very sorry we did not re-sign Mike Fiers to a 2-year deal.
Then just promote Espada for the season. And Putilla.
Not gonna happen, but I can dream, right?
I just wish they would have put him on the Post Season roster.
Nobody was wishing that then.
Bingo, Coach. Look, folks, we cheated. We have to suffer the consequences.
I think the punishment is insanely draconian, but my issue is the selective enforcement and singling out the Astros.
I disagree about the punishment being draconian, but not about the selective enforcement and targeting of the Astros.
Yes. And then thrown him off of the plane at 30,000 feet.
“Hey Mike, scream once if you have a parachute, twice if you don’t.”
McTaggart put up some polls on how people would like it if any of the managerial candidates were hired. Ultimately meaningless but the popular opinion of Bannister is disappointing.
As of right now:
Espada: 73% approve / 27% disapprove
Bannister: 63/37
Baker: 59/41
Gibbons: 43/57
Showalter: 43/57
Perez: 40/60
Venable: 39/61
Ausmus: 38/62
That’s interesting. Glad to see Espada leading the group think. I think Ausmus might be a good fit as long as he was materially influenced by the remaining front office. If he was the influencer instead of the influencee, it might be a problem as he’s shown to be tone deaf a bit.
That now makes 9 confirmed interviews for the manager position. I understand wanting to cover your bases and making sure you hire the right guy, but I can’t remember the last time I saw a team interview this many folks. I’m starting to get a little worried that Crane is in over his head here and should have focused on the GM job first, so said GM could hire his own manager.
