Even with my Spanish I can get most of the lyrics.
This is great! DĂłnde estĂĄs, dĂłnde estĂĄs, dĂłnde estĂĄs? ![]()
Thatâs something Iâve always thought about this guy and the songs his band plays - his lyrics are usually very repetitive, and they would be a great tool for people looking to learn Spanish in a mildly unconventional way.
Anyone else get an email from the Social Security admin applauding the passage of the historic legislation that will save seniors millions?
Almost choked on my coffeeâŚ
I felt so much better knowing that the Social Security administration thought that the passage was a good thing. I had my doubts, but not now.
I was half hoping it was a phishing scam of some sort.
Anyway sorry to get it on the wrong thread.
AARP discussion is perfectly appropriate in this topic.
Forty years ago on Sunday, me, my girl, my best mate and his girl packed a cooler with sandwiches, snacks and soft drinks and set off for a concert. We had no idea what to expect, but being backing singers for Freddie Mercury wasnât in our wildest expectations.
Jeebus, 40 years? Surely it was just 8 or 10 years ago?
The Live Aid YouTube channel is unveiling a full rebroadcast of the event on Sunday.
Hereâs a digest thatâs about 15 hours shorter. Itâs worth watching at least the first few minutes or so, as a reminder of what it was all about.
ETA: Bono chose âBonoâ as his rockstar name because âBobcat Goldthwaiteâ was already taken.
Wow!
What a moment. Incredible that you were there for it and in it.
If you listen to the crowd, Iâm the only one singing in key.
worse Aussie accent Gâday, Bruce.
âŚâthatâs a knifeâ
FYI, the full Live Aid concert is up on YouTube. They have broken it down into chunks and chapter marked each artist and song, so itâs easy to jump in to see a particular performance.
For me, Iâve forgotten more about that day than I can remember (fucking Elvis Costello playedâŚwhen was that?!), but one of the strongest memories for me is The Boomtown Ratsâ âI Donât Like Mondaysâ.
The Rats probably shouldâve opened the show, but Geldof wanted âRocking All Over the Worldâ as the opening number, so we got the crushingly uncool Status Quo instead. But when they came out third, âMondaysâ was their opening number.
We were straining the analogy of a song about unnecessary death, but we didnât care. It was truly emotional for me, and Geldof leaving the last line to be sung by us in the crowd is a moment that sticks with me (even more than the Queen set).
[Clip set to start at that moment]
Awesome.
I always thought Boomtown Rats was one of the greatest band names ever.
I always liked their pianist, Johnnie Fingers.
I did.
