I know I catch a lot of shit for not being into to Pearl Jam and Nirvana and the whole grunge thing, but in the late 80s/90s I found Sweet and bands like Hothouse Flowers and The Tragically Hip much more interesting and compelling. And frankly original.
Not to mention his work with Lloyd Cole and the Under the Covers series with Hoffs. I got to see him a few times back in the 90s but he’s been a tough catch more recently. Certainly one of my favorites of the 90s/00s.
I’ve not been shy about my thing for Susanna Hoffs (hey, I like pretty dark-haired women…and breakfast food), and the Under the Covers stuff with the two of them is just boatloads of fun. Their version of More Than This is one of my all-time favorite covers of that song. Unfortunately, I don’t think they years have been kind to him like they have Hoffs. Hope he gets through all of this.
