That voice.

And that band.

Given the mountains of coke that disappeared in his vicinity Hoss kept his performances tight.

I’ve got a Waylon story for you, but just not today. Help remind me.

I’m pretty sure that’s Jeff Lynne in that photo with Waylon. That guy’s everywhere.

Saw this and thought of HH:

Almost makes me wish I had Threads.

It’s basically the PJ version of this:

You don’t have to have anything, Gramps, just click on it.

My old man complaint about the threads links is there’s no way to modulate the volume and you can’t reverse or fast forward.

Threads isn’t a toxic cesspool of misogyny and racism, but as a platform is still far short of what Twitter was.

One of my friends is a big PJ fan.

I always enjoy sending stuff like that to him.

Back in my day if we wanted to listen to caterwauling…

So I would not have guessed that clip was not actually Pearl Jam. That’s exactly what they sound like to me.

I’ve got another friend who is a huge fan of The Cure.

When one of their songs pops up on my shuffle I take a screenshot and send it to him with the text ‘skip’.

I just heard the news that Matthew Sweet suffered a stroke while in Canada out on his new tour. He’s one of the really good ones and it seems he’s going to need some help. Here’s the story and there’s a GFM link at the bottom should you feel compelled.

Aw man, that sucks. I’ve always really like Sweet. He’s done some really diverse stuff over the years, from his really early stuff with Michael Stipe, to his solo stuff, to being “Sid Belvedere” in Ming Tea alongside Susanna Hoffs and Mike Meyers, which eventually spawned the whole Austin Powers franchise. He’s kind of a jangle-power pop genius. I wish him well in his recovery.

Oh man, that’s terrible news. Time Capsule came out either my junior or senior year of high school. Such a great album. He also made an appearance on the second season of Late Night With Conan O’Brien and played the Theremin, which I’d never heard of before.

I’ve never listened to much of his material, but I always thought that “Girlfriend” was a genius bit of — as you put it — jangly power pop.
