Music, 2022

The aforementioned 30-year old in 1986 went to school in Ireland and was a huge U2 fan. I’m pretty sure some of it was playing at some time or another that night.

Ironically, Joshua Tree was when they started to be just another band to me.

That’s pretty much straight up. I’ll say it again, much to MM’s grinding of his his teeth…U2 peaked with The Unforgettable Fire. The Joshua Tree was…fine, but it was on the downslope.

‘Heartbreak Hotel’ John Cale
‘Tainted Love’ Coil
‘Our Lips Are Sealed’ Fun Boy Three
‘Stardust’ Louis Armstrong
‘St. Louis Blues’ Bessie Smith

I had this on my list but can it be a cover if it was co-written by the band member?

I’d call it a cover if it’s the second version recorded. But if you’d like to pull it, I can go with Devo’s ‘Satisfaction.’

ED: Oh, Sid Dithers already placed that one. Here’s five more:
‘Suspicious Minds’ Fine Young Cannibals
‘Proud Mary’ Ike & Tina Turner
‘Hallelujah’ John Cale
‘Me And Bobby McGee’ Janis Joplin
‘Sweet Jane’ Cowboy Junkies

I wasn’t really busting on you, just wanted to point out my thinking since I’d include it too.

No chop-busting taken.

In 2000/01 we lived in Slane Ireland and the concert at Slane Castle that year was Brian Adams. Bleh. We moved back to the US in early 2001 and U2 played Slane in Sept that year. Missed 'em by that much. Brian freaking Adams.

Same for me mostly, until Achtung Baby! came along.

Of all post-War releases, this is my favorite.

The Irish love them some pretty bad music.

Statesboro Blues - Allman Brothers
Call Me the Breeze - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Train, Train - Blackfoot (though that’s in similar territory as Our Lips Are Sealed)

I’d thought of just saying, “Everything Led Zeppelin did” but you have to draw a line somewhere.

I’m pretty sure “40” was in there somewhere, which may be worse. Or better, depending on how you look at it, I suppose.

Excellent call on “Call Me The Breeze”.
