Inevitable You-Know-Who Thread

John Edwards, once the Democratic candidate for Vice President, was tried, convicted, and imprisoned for virtually the same thing. So, yes.

Yeah, these dumbshits have a selective and short memory. Bill Clinton’s legal troubles were largely bogus, and driven by Republicans.

Was he imprisoned? And was he actually found guilty?

He was acquitted on one count he faced and the jury deadlocked on the the other five, resulting in a mistrial (but I assume you knew that). The important thing here, though, is that he was investigated, charged and prosecuted, while he was a candidate running for president.

This is exactly what is happening to Trump. The outcome will be determined by the relative strengths of the prosecution’s and defense’s respective cases, as decided by the jury. Just like it was in Edwards’ case.

You are correct. He was indicted for six felonies on Federal campaign finance charges during the Obama Administration. He was found not guilty on one charge and a mistrial was declared on the remaining five charges.

I would note that Democrats abandoned Edwards once his actions became known. He couldn’t win a Democratic primary for dog catcher.

Clinton lied under oath in order to cover up an affair, and made a plea bargain which involved giving up his law license (how politicians get to make deals like this that would be denied to us mere mortals is a whole nother subject).

Trump covered up affairs by paying off the women involved, which is not in and of itself illegal. But he is being prosecuted because, allegedly, he recorded the payoffs in such a way as to misrepresent them as business and/or campaign expenses, which is something that sits in the centre of a multi-ringed Venn diagram of criminality.

This is the fundamental difference between the two parties; Democrats punish their miscreants while Republicans embrace them. In addition to Edwards, I can list Al Frankel, Anthony Weiner, Katie Hill, Elliot Spitzer and Andrew Cuomo just off the top of my head.

Remember when David Vitter was outed as using the DC Madam’s service? His Republican colleagues gave him an ovation when he returned to the Senate floor which is, ironically, one of the places from where he booked his hookers.

The only sin from which a Republican cannot come back, is going against the party.

Real Helsinki energy from Trump this afternoon. Head down, slow walking, grim expression. Finding out is hard, folks.

Might want to do a little reading before posting. John Edwards did not go to prison. Nor was he a former President of the United States. So, no.

Trump at this point is under arrest. Charges will be released shortly after he completes the arraignment process.

Monica Lewinsky’s cigar would disagree with you.

Oh really? What jail cell is he currently in? Do tell!

She don’t want no broke ass creeper.

34 counts confirmed. One of them, at least, is for conspiracy, which presumably is the felony that can convert the business record misdemeanor charges to felonies.

Some reports are that all 34 counts are all felonies, but that is not universally confirmed. It may also be 34 business record offenses plus a conspiracy charge.

Charges involve the payments to both Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal.

ETA: Reporting now suggesting there are tax charges included. Which has to be about as bad as this can get for Trump. Did Weisselberg flip?

Gotta make something a felony to “get Trump”

The funniest part is his fund-raising email with his fake mugshot. Just give him money and you too can be the proud owner of a photoshopped tshirt depicting him to be 2-inches taller than he actually is. Supplies limited! Don’t wait!

Hey we gotta cool down inflation somehow. Keep it up, Trumpy, so JP don’t have to.

I’ll also add that Jerry Hall’s range of spouses is just about as weird as that ghoul Guilfoyle’s.

People are strange, I reckon.
