George Santos is a cartoon character.

The Brazilian TV show reported that Santos splurged while living in Niterói in 2008 with his mother, who passed away in 2016, and his sister. In an interview, a woman called Adriana Damasceno claimed to have met Santos at a Bingo parlor. Damasceno said they became friends and that during a trip to the United States in 2011, he went “shopping under her name, withdrew all the money she had in the bank, and even pawned jewelry.” When asked about whether she had reported anything to authorities, Damasceno said Santos bragged about having dual citizenship—American and Brazilian—and that she felt powerless to come forward.

Trump’s deposition in the E. Jean Carroll case has been unsealed by the judge. It’s as much of a shit show as you might imagine.

The new GOP house has said they’re going to conduct a “real January 6th investigation”, with the targets being Gen. Mark Milley and Nancy Pelosi whom they accuse of trying to stage a coup that day. Gosar, Green, and Gaetz will head it up.

Welcome to the New Congressional Order.

Yay! No more inflation!

There isn’t widespread or organized voter fraud in our elections (other than Republican voter suppression), but there are a myriad of cases of individuals committing small beer voter fraud.

Spoiler alert: they’re all Republicans.

This was the inevitable next step down.

Meanwhile the number of current and former GOP elected officials arrested for their parts in a deadly insurrection remains at zero.

The Insurrection was the Beer Hall Putsch. Now, like Hitler and the Nazis, the Republicans are trying to take over the “legitimate”. Makes one wonder if the Biden administration is our Weimar.

We dodged a bullet in 2022 with Democrats keeping control of the Senate (actually gaining a seat). Not that anyone can let their guard drop, but I was hoping that getting through that one was going to be the hardest test of democracy, and it should be easier to steer away from autocracy going forward.

But, the Senate map for Democrats in 2022 was beneficial, while the map for 2024 horrendous. They have 20 seats on the ballot compared to the GOP’s 11, many in states that Trump actually won. Further, if Biden runs for re-election (and I see no reason why he wouldn’t, his record so far is impressive), “but his documents” will become the new “but her emails” which makes his re-election much more precarious. Also, if a sitting president gets primaried, history shows that the opposing party wins the White House.

The wild card will be the GOP’s control of the House. It’s going to be a disaster, but all will hinge on whether their shit-flinging becomes the mainstream narrative (see “emails, but her”) or whether they destroy the GOP’s electability. It won’t hurt the tightly gerrymandered House candidates, but they could sink the presidential candidate and perhaps take out a few Senate incumbents and hopefuls.

If there is a canary in this coal mine giving us an early indication, it could be Chuck “both sides” Todd actually pushing back quite forcefully on insurrectionist Ron Johnson.

Here’s a fun fact: the GOP is putting Greene and Gosar on the House Oversight committee. They’re also putting Santos on the Small Business committee, presumably because he has enough personae to form a small business.

Fuck me, what a shit show.

One of Santos’ staffers called someone claiming to be McCarthy’s chief of staff.:rofl::rofl:

Santos is pure, concentrated 21st century GOP.

He’s one of the few characters that entered the “Tyson Zone” immediately upon introduction to the wider public. I will never be able to separate satire from actual news stories with him.

Here we go. House GOP wants to abolish the IRS and replace income tax with a national sales tax. Biden replied “Nuts”.

This is beyond stupid and reckless. It’s also right on brand because sales taxes are catastrophically regressive. Lower income families spend more of their income on goods and services while the wealthy would be able to bank unspent income tax free. The wealthy are also more likely to spend money outside of the US thus avoiding taxes on spending too.

Those are usually the older, senior mamas, yes (or, many of my copilots), but this FA was a cocky, young dude who wouldn’t stop telling me how he was a day trader once and how dumb many flight attendants were.
I regret going downstairs to the hotel bar and talking to him.
