*If it is being used as a form of birth control
My belief on late term abortion is the same as any term when used for birth control. The unborn has a right to life.
Since you quoted it, go ahead and answer the question you quoted too.
When is abortion not used for birth control?
What else would abortion be used for besides birth control?
Do you have any exceptions to this?
Iām opposed to the death penalty but if a person turns out to be a real miscreant and allowing them to live poses a threat to society, Iām not opposed to an abortion after the 66th trimester.
Thatās why I was confused. I guess he could be referring to situations when the motherās life is at stake, but at the end of the day, it all kind of winds up in the same state.
I think perhaps he means as a form of āretro activeā birth control for those that were too ignorant to use birth control before fucking. I also suspect you already knew that. You are a smart guy who is not that easily confused. You are also good at making a point.
Thatās a fair question.
The whole discussion is based on where you draw a line. My personal belief that my wife and I agree on, for us personally we are not comfortable with abortion for any reason.
My wife and I were faced with this hard decision when we went for an ultrasound with her first pregnancy. The ultrasound tech kept moving around from a clear heart beat to moving to an area with no heartbeat. She did this for what seemed a long time, then quickly got up and left. My wife and I just looking at each other bewildered. After some time the Dr came in and did the same with the ultrasound. He stopped and said that there were twins. Oh wow! Then we were told they were conjoined and one was not viable. Most everything spoken after that news is cloudy in my mind with what was said. Although, since there was a high probability that the healthy one would not make it or could have many health problems the Dr did give abortion as an option. We chose to go forward with the pregnancy as is. The next time we came in for an ultrasound there was only one child showing and this child was still healthy. The twin was most likely absorbed we were told. We now have a healthy, loving 15yr old daughter that I canāt imagine not having in my life these years.
To answer you clearly, I am willing to concede for others abortion in instances of rape or health of the mother (an extremely small amount percentage wise). Concede for others, but I am not comfortable with this personally. In the instance I use the word birth control is for an otherwise healthy pregnancy that the mother doesnāt want.
See my reply to Leslie
That seems like an oddly specific and subjective standard for a declarative statement. I donāt think he meant heās cool with abortion if pre-coital birth control methods failed/were ineffective, which is why I was confused by āif.ā
As answered to Leslie, for my wife and I personally no, no exceptions.
Thatās a very intense experience and Iām glad it worked out for your family.
No, not cool with that scenario at all. I also donāt think that is what the Col meant either.
Thanks, I was typing a reply, but got rudely interrupted with work.
I understand. Do you think itās appropriate to impose your views on people who donāt share them?
Iām glad that things worked out for you and your family.
This is exactly the kind of scenario that keeps me in the āpersonal choiceā lane when it comes to this issue. I would not want to be forced or told what to do in the event of such a profound decision, even though I would never be one to ever have to make it.
For abortion used as birth control (as I described previously), yes.
Iād like to make a point about the post that started this discussion (legislating vasectomies) I can see that several on the pro-choice side thought this was funny or a good idea.
I see it as a waste of legislative process since it is unenforceable (laying aside that it will never be passed).
Itās a ridiculous waste of time and only serves to drive a wedge further separating this already divided country. So far this thread has been gracious in trying to come to understanding. We should hold elected officials accountable to do this too.
Itās funny because itās a terrible idea.
