I feel lucky. Austin Energy says we are out, but so far, just occasional flickering.
Big limb from the neighbors took out the corner of my roof. No power loss though.
Some smaller trees are looking pretty sad.
My big crepe myrtle looks like a weeping willow.
Stay safe and warm, everyone.
Had a split second power outage early this morning, and nothing since.
My neighbors say because we’re so close to Seton Hospital here in central Austin, our grid is stout what with backup power, etc.
Speaking of downed limbs, saw many of them this morning walking the pooch. She, of course, is happy as can be in this crap weather, so I have to suck it up and let her have her time while I’m miserable.
This limb from a 100+ yr old oak fell in front of us at the TxDoT facility near my place while we were walking. It was nuts. Its larger, older and bigger sibling next to it is hanging on.
Sooooooo much ice on tree limbs and power lines…
Btw, if any of you in Austin don’t have power and need anything, feel free to message me- door’s always open.
Stay warm and safe, y’all!
My live oak’s branches are touching the ground. Same thing happened in 2021 and it survived with no permanent damage, so fingers crossed.
It’s a trip seeing the branches doing that.
Oaks are incredibly resilient trees.
In-laws in Palestine lost power overnight, and their generator failed. They’re doing fine but it’s an unexpected pain in the ass.
Well, now I have roof and fence damage, both from neighbors’ trees. Roof looks minor, but it’s going to be a pain in the ass.
Hope everyone stays safe. And warm.
Jesus Christo, what’s going on over there?
Worst ice storm since ‘07.
In Austin, not nearly as bad as ‘21.
Worst ice storm since ‘07 based on preliminary data from National Weather Service
Boy, not at my house. ‘21 was way worse here. The streets were wet the last couple of days but never got icy near me. The trees and the plants caught hell, though. Temp never got much lower than 31.
My trees are suffering far worse this time compared to ‘21. Or even ‘07 for that matter.
Yeah, this far worse at my house than any previous year that I have experienced.
Well, I guess my neighborhood was lucky or perhaps we are talking about different things. The trees and plants in this neighborhood took a beating, as I said, but the sidewalks and streets were only wet and did not ice over. In ‘21, one could not walk or drive anywhere around here safely for several days because of the dangerous ice covering the sidewalks and streets. It was not nearly as cold this time either.
Older neighborhoods with old growth Live Oaks and Cedar trees are taking an absolute ass kicking this storm. The number of huge branches and trees down within half a mile of my place is in the 20s at least.
