Dan Crenshaw is another example of what Chris Hayes was talking about in the link above. None of them have the slightest interest in governing - they campaign on the principle that government doesn’t work and, when elected, set about proving it.
Just found out my former employer (central Austin) has four feet of standing water in their ~10,000 sqft basement. The basement houses a large meeting space, a full commercial-grade kitchen, chiller, boiler, city transformer, air handlers, and elevator controls.
Are we now? Just quick google says we are 7th (not even top 10%) in KWH prices and the average energy bill for Texans is in the upper half, ive seen from 30th-40th most expensive.
I think something really really important is being missed. Republicans don’t care. you can die, they don’t care. Ted Cruz gives zero fucks about anyone in Houston that is struggling, freezing, burning their kids’ toys, dying–he doesn’t care. Abbot doesn’t either, he just has to spin it to make it look like he does. We can all go ahead and die as far as they’re concerned, as long as the various share prices go up. There is no other method or calculus going on here, just like with Trump and corona–they only care about how much money they can make off of it, collateral damage be damned. And their voters are the same, except stupider.
I suspect the tweet was actually referencing Cuomo? As in, fuck all these New Yorkers piling on Cruz?
I don’t know. Maybe Trump honestly thinks Texas has a democratic governor, but that seems more likely to me. Also it’s solidly in keeping with the knee jerk GOP technique (which has become their only argument ever in every instance) to say “but look over there at what the person you like is doing!” any time they are criticized.
This very long twitter thread has a lot of info in it that I found interesting.
Ok. Opening up, Full disclosure, I am in the solar industry. I have built about $1.5B of wind, and I spent 5 years doing transmission development in ERCOT. My transmission experience made me open to any technology that works.
That is pretty much my understanding. Wind and solar were small and temporary players. The real issues were the amount of MW in outage before the storm followed by frozen gas and water lines. The power stations can’t operate without either fuel or water.
Over four days without power. My apartment flooded overnight Monday. After several calls to the apartment emergency number and several emails, I JUST NOW spoke to someone. They said they have over 100 flooded units. No estimate on how long my apartment will be uninhabitable.
I’m lucky and have a friend to stay with, and my daughter can stay with her mom. My friend and I have been without water for three days, but at least her place isn’t wet.
It’s owned and managed by Northland Investments. The person I spoke to today sounded really overwhelmed. The call was a weird mix of me being angry/ feeling bad for her. Apparently, the required insurance I pay through them doesn’t cover a place to stay during emergencies. My fault for not being more prepared, I guess.
