The rarity thing is just a bragging point.
9 out of 9 is the goal.

Ok, Thanks Big D.
Today was second day playing it. I went 8/9 with a rarity score of 341. I had two squares tie as my low percentage (6%) with Roberto Alomar and Jake Westbrook.
Missed on 1/1 thinking Corey Dickerson had played for both the Rockies and Padres. When I looked him up after, I saw he played for the Pirates and the somewhat similar colors must have been what threw me off.
There are other fun sub-games to play too. Instead of pure rarity score, you can try to just avoid the most popular answer for each square—or play the opposite game and try to guess the most popular answer for all 9. I’ve seen other folks try to play using connections to their home team, so that you try to play guys who meet the day’s requirements and also played for e.g. the Astros.
I’m not nearly good enough to play for anything but 9/9, and some days (ahem, today) even getting to 6 is a struggle.
That’s cool and great ideas. Kinda wish they would let you play again (off record if need be) just to play around with it. Maybe they will allow that down the road.
You can open a different browser and play again. Chrome, Firefox, Brave, Microsoft Edge…
I may have set a new record. Tito Francona, Omar Vizquel and nobody else. 2/9.
Are managers eligible?
First off, seeing Tito above made me want to ask the same question. Will look for an opportunity in the future to try a manager when one fits and see.
Secondly, using Sphinx’s idea I played a second time today using another browser going for rare squares but not using any of my previous picks and only got 6/9. Did pull Tony Pena (1%) in the 5/9 square, so that was pretty cool.
Thirdly, thanks to Virtual Bob for turning me on to this game. I’m addicted.
9/9 today with a 182 rarity - which with a 63% on one guess is pretty solid.
My first 9/9 today with rarity score of 147.
Checked in with 0.5% on 5/9 square with Pete Incaviglia.
8/9. I biffed Braves ROY, I couldn’t remember if Acuña won it so I went with what I thought was the safer choice in Heyward. Oops.
Also 8/9, biffed on same when I tried to get cute with Steve Avery.
ETA: and I learned something today, which is that the ninth corner doesn’t have to have both conditions fulfilled the same year. I thought I had to find someone who got MVP and ROY the same year. Not so.
Today was hard. Maybe the hardest I’ve played since starting earlier this week. In the past I was so sure I had certain squares right and then….no, you are a dipshit sir response when entered.
Today there were 3 squares I was worried were wrong but I just couldn’t come up with any other options and got lucky they were right.
What?
Now I have to go and see if Fred Lynn won ROY and MVP in the same year.
Chipper seriously didn’t win ROY?
He did. He was the only one before Ichiro.
Well then that ought to be the easiest answer of all.
Jeffrey Bagwell gets you a good % on that one
Rarity score: 81 with Steve Kemp @ 0.02%
On same rookie card as Dale Murphy I’d memory serves.
