I remember that. It was one of Terry Collins’ brilliant schemes to get the great Sid Bream more at bats.
And today my Astros were Dooley Womack, Casey Candaele, and Cesar Cedeno, for a cool total of 2.5.

I did a mix of then and now … Bennett Sousa, David Hensley, and Jimmy Wynn for 2.23.
I also got Victor Caratini into the grid (for another “now”) and Frank Malzone for a sub-1% “then”.
Tommy Davis, Rafael Landestoy, Larry Dierker 0.9
Dennis Sarfate (0.03), Jose Castillo (0.008), Moises Alou (0.8) for the Astros row today.
I was tempted to use Carlos Zambrano as a Cub/Brewer because I distinctly remember him pitching against the Astros on a damp night in Milwaukee.
John Cangelosi
Today’s played SS and CF was perfect for Myles Straw
I took The Great Bill Spiers instead.
Dear immaculate grid,
I don’t care about the history of the baseball draft, and you can’t make me.
Kelly Gruber wasn’t drafted by the Blue Jays
Bwahahahahaha, my time to shine.
Damn, I learned the hard way that Carlos Lee was never an All-Star for the White Sox. That was a surprise.
Found spots today for Carl Warwick (not quite an original 45 but close) and Ted Kluszewski (a childhood fave based on the name alone).
I’ve managed to fill out the SFG and STL rows in today’s grid with ex-Astros for a combined total of 1.394 rarity points (although I had to cheat and use b-r.com to get a SFG/SS entry). But I got to use Dr. Death and the Flea, which was nice.
I mention this because my score is about to be destroyed by the Negro Leagues row, since I really only know the most famous names.
Thank you for reminding me to watch this video yet again
I remember hating Moises Alou after that but instantly forgave him when he became an Astro.
He’s somewhere in my pantheon of favorite Astros
Mine also.
Grid is broken today – Sandy Alomar was the regular 2B for the Sox in 1968 – even confirmed by Baseball Reference – but is not allowed in the center of the grid. Spoiled my first 9/9 in a while.
Works for me. You might’ve clicked on Jr. by mistake?
