What you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul
You’re gonna have to be more specific.
Everything you relayed from the yahoos
That is outstanding!
He was a really good guy.
I give it to DiMaggio over Mantle by a hair. Mantle actually finished with the higher OBP and they ended up with an identical .977 OPS. DiMaggio, serving in WWII, missed three years of his prime playing days. Mantle played 5 more seasons than did DiMaggio, thus Mantle, while injured often, had more than 3000 PA than DiMaggio.
Mantle also played while drunk or with a massive hangover much of the time.
DiMaggio’s only impediment was being a world class asshole.
I thought about it and wasn’t sure if I should give or subtract points from Mantle for that.
And with his legs held together with duct tape the rest of the time. It’s incredible to think of what Mantle could have done if he’d taken better care of himself and stayed healthy.
Or how easily his knees could have been fixed with modern medicine.
I know that goes for so many players in so many sports from back then.
I went with Juan Marichal thinking I would lower my score but nope - 47%. Still finished with a nice 9/9 127.
Mike Krukow 4%
One of the career .300 hitters who played for Baltimore? Zack Britton. 5 for 8 with a double and a homer.
Two of the highest-percentage “most popular” responses I’ve ever seen today for the Astros and Padres .300 hitters (unsurprisingly but noted).
Also Jose Valverde for the Astros. 1 for 2!
It had never even occurred to me to think about pitchers’ batting averages.
Went Ray Knight, Kevin Bass, Altuve today.
Went 8/9. Only miss was 3/9 square. Opened in another browser and used all nine guesses and still didn’t solve it.
Roberto Alomar…yeah, should have got that one.
Will Clark & Vlad…no recollection of either in an Orioles uniform. Yet I can remember players today like Craig Lefferts, lol.
The Will Clark thing was a total surprise for me, too.
For some reason I have a clear memory of Will Clark as an Oriole playing against the Cuban national team 25 years ago or so.
I think the timeline was Clark to Texas in the same year that Palmeiro went to Baltimore.
Then Palmeiro came back to Texas and Clark went to Baltimore.
This may shock you, so read on with caution: when Clark was in Arlington he was an absolute jackass fuckwad with the media. Everyone from beat reporters to the guys chasing tape post game. Especially to those low rung guys in fact.
Hard to fathom, I know.
As a kid, I loooved Will Clark the hitter
