That was a Gamble.
I should have just folded ‘em.
He was the answer I went with as well. I was actually looking at his and Browns and other Rangers pitchers pages a few weeks ago. I was trying to prove a point that the Rangers had only developed like 5 good pitchers in the last 30 years. I knew one of Brown and Rogers had won 20 games at one point but could not remember which one.
Ryan, Brown, Rogers, Hough, and Bobby Witt were all in that rotation.
Not sure how many years Hough was there.
Might be a testament or an indictment on Bobby Valentine that they never made the postseason.
That was pre-wc if you want to be fair. Which I don’t.
I just dropped in to see what condition y’all’s grids was in
Nice
To merge this with Laz Diaz’s strikezone…0:30 in to the video…
It was either that or I quote lines from Fergalicious. Pretty easy choice, really.
Critical condition, I think, is the answer.
Look, Boone’s eventual cause of death will be “the incurable condition of being a little bitch”, but mocking Diaz’s overdramatic strike call was outstanding.
I get that people enjoy watching Aaron Boone argue with the umps, but to me, it’s really just kind of sad.
I will say top marks for the bow and arrow imitation though, despite the rest of it being a sad little hissy fit.
It’s very Boone that he was arguing an obvious strike.
Baseball card collecting years helps me tremendously…I had a solid 8-9 year run. That helped me with Kevin Brown as the '87 Donruss card popped into my mind quickly. Crazy how you can remember stuff like that.
I was otherwise terrible today getting only 6/9. Tried to get cute and use Dave Stieb for Blue Jays 200-K square. I still can’t believe he never struck out at least 200. I remember him having one hell of a slider!
He let me down too.
My memory banks have huge gaps in every decade but 80s/90s are my best bets.
ETA: Stieb topped out at 198 in 1984.
Thanks for pointing that out Big D! I was thiiiiiiis close, lol. Twisting that knife!
I tried to get cute with Hampton for the Mets and thus whiffed on my first guess, which at least has the perq of taking the pressure off.
I remembered Brown pitched for the Rangers but I didn’t remember him being really good there. Thus I whiffed on my second pick of Kenny Rogers.
6/9 today. I was at least among the (now) 10% who went with McClain.
I have been thinking about this recently–about how Yankee managers griping about bullshit seems basically as regular as spring–and it occurred to me that it’s probably kind of part of the job description. Like, if all those Bronx dipshits don’t see you taking their side and fighting as truculantly, pointlessly and wrongly as they might like to do in your position, you might as well start looking for another gig. Like, it’s probably mostly public relations.
I chose Mickey Lolich who checked in at 4%.
Checking the possible 20 game winner / 200 K combo is a fun exercise.
My all-time favorite player name is Pickles Dillhoefer. If I’d been on my toes, I’d have used him for a Cub/Cardinal connection. But it’s in my back pocket.
