Disturbing and disgusting is right. Lane’s excuse that he didn’t stop Chauvin because Chauvin was his superior officer shows how much police training needs to change. You don’t just blindly follow your superior when he’s in the process of killing a person. You step in and put a stop to it.
The entire transcript shows that it’s time to stop treating police officers like they are above the law and better than the rest of us. The better than thou, entitled attitude that some police officers have needs to go away.

I think the “I was just following orders” defense against murder charges was debunked some years ago.

This is the very heart of it. Police officers should be held to a higher standard of conduct than regular people given their authority, training, and weaponry. For every interaction with the public the burden should be on the police officer to ensure there’s not a negative outcome and to bear responsibility for deescalation.

Our nation has truly lost it’s way. Punishments are supposed to fit the crime, and, in this case, there was no crime committed.
The video in this news report made me equal parts angry and sick.
Phoenix officer brutalized woman during minor traffic stop, then took her to jail
Mariah Valenzuela, 23, was pulled over one night in January for a minor traffic violation. Body-camera footage obtained by the Guardian shows that the officer involved, Michael McGillis, would not tell the unarmed woman why he stopped her, and that seconds after she said she didn’t have ID on her, he tackled and slammed her on to the ground, injuring her head, face, hands and legs.
Police footage also documents another officer instructing the policemen on the scene to “cover your ass” in the paperwork.
Following the incident, Valenzuela was taken to jail, accused of resisting arrest and “creating a substantial risk of physical injury” to an officer. She was also cited for DUI even though her blood alcohol content was well below the legal limit.
Her ID was in the car. I’m guessing this fucknut officer thought he had someone undocumented and decided he could do whatever the fuck he wanted. While he has avoided actual disciplinary action in the past, he has a track record of being an out-of-control asshole on duty…and in court.
This guy is a badass. Apparently he’s a former wrestler for the USNA.

DHS is being run by “acting” Trump appointees, none of whom have come close to a senate confirmation hearing. Acting DHS Director Chad Wolf is a Republican apparatchik whose extensive experience of la enforcement includes going to college on a tennis scholarship and getting a BS in history from SMU.
Wolf has defended the anonymity of the stormtroopers he deployed in Portland, and says he is ready to deploy them nationwide. They are drawn from multiple federal agencies - including the Border Patrol and Bureau of Prisons - and are operating on public streets without any appropriate training. No wonder they are so out of control.

In other idiot-related news…Moscow Mitch McConnell was spotted in the Oval Office today wearing a tan suit…sans American flag lapel pin. No word on if Sean Hannity had to be hospitalized over such a grievous assault on the American way of life, or if Mitch also ordered spicy mustard on his hamberder, which would have sent Hannity into an apoplectic rage.
That was no tan suit, that thing was yellow.
On a related, and much more serious note, Hannity is a little busy with the sexual harassment allegations against him, Tucker Carlson and others at Fox News.
Cathy Areu and Jennifer Eckhart filed a lawsuit on Monday accusing Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, journalist Howard Kurtz, contributor Gianno Caldwell and Ed Henry of sexual misconduct, including rape. Eckhart worked as a producer on Fox Business, while Areu was a frequent guest and technically met the definition of a part-time employee.
Ed Henry had already been fired from the network on July 1 over sexual misconduct claims.
I hope Ed Henry has to go to prison. He is a sick fuck.
