Juice Box Junior?

Had also seen speculation that the Mets might go after him but they signed Albert Almora Jr. today. The market for JBJ seems to be shrinking and you have to wonder whether the asking price there is also dropping…

I’m torn about JBJ. I think I’d like to have him but I’ve started getting used to the idea of Straw in center full time and seeing what he can do. If we have limited money to spend because of the tax threshold, I think we still need a back end starter and would be smarter to spend the money there. While I feel comfortable with Javier in the 5 slot, he’s going to be on a pitch/innings limit. He’s never pitched anywhere near a full 162 game season. Same for the other youngsters. There are also concerns in the industry about how pitchers arms are going to react after the unusual 2020 season. I know we have Stanek and Pruitt who could also possibly start, but I wonder if Arrieta or Hill wouldn’t be the smarter play.

That is probably the club’s fallback/negotiating stance.

Doolittle to the Reds on a 1 year deal.

Padres take a $340 million leap of faith and lock up Tatis Jr. for the next 14 years.

And just for reference…Tatis just signed the longest contract in MLB history. The Mets will still be paying Bobby Bonilla after Tatis’s contract ends.
