HOF 2023

The other thing with Sheffield is, he’s getting the “last year on the ballot” bump

Also the “well, if Harold Baines made it…” bump

Also the Ron Washington bump… oh wait, that’s a different thing all together.

I remember a while back when Beltre was still playing he was considered a guy who probably deserved to make the HOF but likely wouldn’t. Then his career just kept going at an elite level for several more years and he became a shoo-in. Great ball player.

Beltre is an odd career. From age 19-30 he was mostly a glove first 3B that could go on a tear from time to time. Outside of that one LA year, he was basically a league average hitter. From 31-39 though, he was still a great defensive 3B but the bat was MUCH better to the tune of a 130 OPS+(vs 105 through age 30).

He had more WAR post 30 than before 30, and he came up at 19 and was a fulltime starter at 20. So its not like he didn’t reach the majors until later. Just a very strange, but great, career.

Utley is such a “peak vs career” case.

Hard to make the hall when you don’t become a full time starter until age 26

Especially if your last season over 1.2 WAR is at age 35

Wagner misses out again. Waiting to see how close he got

4 votes. He missed by 4 fucking votes

Damn. But since he got that close, he’s a lock for next year.

Should be. Guys typically get a bump in their final year on the ballot

Did Biggio miss by 3 or 4 the year before he made it?

I think Biggio was even closer. I feel like I remember him missing by 2 votes but I could be wrong

I think it was actually one vote if memory serves.

Just checked the tracker, in 2014 Biggio got 427 votes out of 571 voters, he needed 429 to get in. Really shows how many voters have been purged in the last 10 years. Only 385 voters this year

They should purge anyone who voted for Vizquel

No arguement from me. I can’t think of a single reason to vote for Vizquel the baseball player and I sure as fuck would not vote for Visquel the person.
