Rosenthal reporting that 8 or more owners oppose starting the season, which would give them enough votes to overrule any agreement from Manfred.
Many fine people on both sides.

You mean they may not play? I am shocked.
Heyman reports that things have taken a turn for the better and they are closing in on a deal to play the season. Expanded playoffs and prorated pay.
ETA Which is typical to hear from the mouthpiece of the owners when they make a proposal that the players haven’t had a chance to analyze yet.
Yeah, Passan is saying there’s no deal.
Drellich too. I always forget to put on the Heyman filter.
This sounds promising.
Manfred/Clark meet and disscuss season…
Some details have started to leak out through media reports. Here are the key takeaways:
- Manfred and Clark met face-to-face in Phoenix at Manfred’s request.
- Owners have reportedly made a new proposal to the players pursuant to that meeting.
- In that new proposal owners have reportedly agreed to pay players their prorated salaries, which had been a major sticking point.
- Players may have agreed to not file any grievance against MLB, which had been a major sticking point for the other side.
- The proposal also reportedly includes an expansion of the playoffs from 10 teams to 16 teams for 2020 and 2021.
- MLBPA has stated that no agreement has yet been reached.
From Rosenthal…
Source: MLB proposal includes:
•60 games in 70 days
•Season starting July 19th/20th
•Full Prorated Salary
•Expanded Playoffs in 2020 and 2021
•Waiving of any potential grievance
16 teams? Sounds like November baseball.
Over half the teams get in. It’s a playoff tournament second season, for sure. No longer the “postseason”. Think of the records that will be broken.
There had been talk about the season continuing into December, so the first week of November doesn’t sound all that bad in comparison. It really depends on how they want to play the first rounds. If the first two rounds are best of 5, and the LCS the best of 7, you have the World Series starting about Oct 29th. They could obviously shorten that by making some Wild Card/1-game play-in games there early, which would shorten it to the typical date range. I haven’t seen an exact proposal yet.
Machete: “My question has always been what’s going to happen if someone tests positive on the road? Where will the person stay? How he will get back to the home city?”
I’m glad progress is being made and I desperately want to watch some Astros baseball, but even once they get moving–if they get moving–it’s going to be a wild and unpredictable ride.
I trust Biggio against a slider low and away more than I trust Heyman.
Supposedly includes DH for both leagues
Surprise!
A start date to be announced later today, but from what I’ve seen July 1 begins spring training in home facilities with a 60 game season to begin on July 24. Postseason format remains unchanged, but universal DH.
Looks like it’s official.
60 game season. What a joke. What happens when players test positive?
It is official
And every Astros road game will be in the pacific time zone.
