The fucking killed Michael Peña. You don’t ever kill Michael Peña.
Fun Fact: I underwrite a Lloyd’s program that provides General, Professional and Umbrella Liability for oil patch consultants. One of the specific consultancies included in the program is Landmen. I hope my capacity providers aren’t watching this show.
ETA: Did Billy Bob really drop in a Bad Santa callback in Ep 1? Yes…yes he did.
I have not yet watched Landman, but I’m looking forward to it, even though I’m sure I will have to suspend a lot of reality. I work with our land men daily, doing all sorts of deals, and I’m certain there is more drama on TV than in reality. But it can still be a good television show. I guess it’s kind of like cop shows. A friend is a longtime homicide detective, and assures me the most realistic cop show ever is not CSI or NYPD Blue or The Wire, but rather Barney Miller.
Landman S1E4 has BBT easing off the throttle to some degree to good effect.
Some of the other characters get to stretch their legs some including the young lawyer who handles a deposition in a way that I’m sure the law-talking guys around here would find hilariously preposterous.
As an aside, Taylor Sheridan’s approach to storytelling seems to be everything all the time all at once. Still, his characters are compelling and the dialog can be pretty smart at times.
I watched E1 and found it ridiculously preposterous. I get there is some funny dialogue, and I expected some “artistic liberties”, but holy shit the storyline is comically absurd. I know…I need to forget all that and enjoy the hilarity.
Hallmark really needs to do a super gritty Wages of Fear/Sorcerer reboot where the cast runs a deadly gauntlet across South America to deliver Christmas presents to poor kids while saving the main character’s marriage…
My favorite part of Ep 3 is when they decide to do a workover, make a phone call, and 5 minutes later the rig shows up with a full crew and all the accoutrements.
