Spanish speakers - wouldn’t it be “cree”, for the imperative “believe!”, rather than “creer”?
Apple has released the first three episodes of “Hello Tomorrow”, which is set in a brilliantly envisioned retro-future world (think “Jetsons”). The cast is excellent too, especially Billy Crudup. But I have no idea what the point of it is, and didn’t bother watching the third episode.
“Letterkenny” is none of these things, and I was hooked within the first minute.
Apple’s shows all look absolutely fantastic. But they need to stop making shows because they can, and think harder about whether they should. So many are just empty showcases.
I’m not much of a Spanish speaker, though I do know that it’s la radio and la foto, in addition to la mano. I get it wrong though. The problem is that Believe! in English can be We believe! or I believe! or Ya’ll believe! Cree, while imperative, would only be correct for a particular pronoun (though I can’t recall which). The infinitive verb Creer! would cover everything, and the translation, to believe, is only approximate. As I understand it there’s no “to” in Spanish, so it probably translates closer to the English Believe! without any troublesome conjugation.
ETA: also, I don’t think there’s an imperative for I Believe!
Apple TV’s “Shrinking” is getting better and better. Harrison Ford is perfect as a sagely curmudgeon (or is it a curmudgeonly sage?).
Letterkenny is one of my favorites, and last year’s Shoresy spin-off was probably my favorite tv show of 2022. I’ve watched it through 3 times.
Anyone catch the new Party Down? I thought the first episode was about as good as you could hope after a 13-year layoff.
Not yet but it prompted Mrs banedoodle and I to watch the original show for the first time and it’s outstanding. Same people who did Veronica Mars, I think?
SNL was actually watchable last night.
First, who doesn’t love Jenna Ortega? I will fight anyone who disagrees.
The cold open was ok, and George Santos is the gift that keeps on giving. Ortega’s monologue was decent and she committed fully to every sketch.
Speaking of which, the live sketches were the usual collection of promising concepts for which they couldn’t find an ending. The Waffle House / teen romance film clip was hilarious.
Weekend Update was good this week, notably because of the roll-ins of the dude who does Trump and Biden doing 2-second impersonations and Tennessee’s Lt. Gov. McNally.
I like her as Wednesday Addams.
I would give folding money to be tied up by Jenna Ortega and Aubrey Plaza.
I had no concept that Jenna Ortega was 20. I would have accepted anything from 15 to 29
They’re no Nancy Grace and Rachel Ray.
I thought it was the Wesson Oil lady?
She will be playing teenagers until she’s 40.
Apparently S3 E1 is out already.
Two episodes in and I have real concerns about the season.
I watched the first two tonight. I’m kinda with you, though Rebecca’s speech in the men’s room was a nice touch.
This is why I don’t watch TV…if a show strikes my interest, I may binge watch it later, but waiting months to see what happens next is exhausting. I learned my lesson watching Lost.
First episode of Bob Odenkirk’s new show, Lucky Hank, was good
