Behind a paywall but the article says the Tolkien estate and Warner Bros were paid $250MM for the rights. Amazon then went on to spend $465MM on making the first season consisting of 8 episodes. That works out to a jaw-dropping $89MM per episode. (With that huge a rights fee Amazon almost certainly will commit to additional seasons.)

As noted the series debuts this Friday…

We’re watching A League of Their Own. So far I suspect the hot lesbian sex scenes are more realistic than the baseball scenes. They’re certainly more central to the plot.

Ep 1 was just so chaotic that I haven’t had the strength to watch any more.

I guess that certainly departs from the movie.

Not that Madonna wouldn’t have been up for it.

I just finished watching Dopesick on Hulu. That was pretty good. I know what medicine I’m never going to take.

Watching “Welcome to Wrexham” on Hulu. Very, very good. If you enjoyed “Sunderland Til I Die”, then this is for you. Also, big “When Eagles Dare” vibes watching this.

“Sunderland ‘Til I Die” was great once I turned the subtitles on.

Welcome to Wrexham is a fun show, a good corollary to Ted Lasso.

WTW puts subtitles on automatically, and also has fun inserts for slang translation.

Even better. With Sunderland I often found myself lost when they were talking to the locals. My wife walked in and asked why I was watching an English show with subtitles. A few moments of watching and she just said, “Oh I see now” and walked away.
