General TV Thread

I thought they did a nice job of notching the story forward a few clicks each episode.

The fire escape scene. Wow.

I prefer the book’s original title.

Bosch: Legacy was pretty good.

Many familiar faces from the first series. A few different stories woven in over the 10 episodes.

A few things had me yelling at the TV (really dangerous choices made by a few characters) but the acting and filming are well done so I let that stuff slide.

This channel is my new favorite passtime on YouTube. You might want to turn your snark level down on this, it comes in pretty thick and fast.

Holy shit, 2nd to last episode of Better Call Saul and I am absolutely on the edge of my seat, and an emotional wreck.

I am going to be so gutted when this series ends. Just an absolute master class in story telling and drama.

Whew.

Good for Kim. I spent most of the past season(s)

shaking my head asking Why?
Fuck Gene/Jimmy.

Masterful storytelling.
Great acting.

(Also I’m glad Mike recognized Howard as a victim. He clearly was disgusted by the scam and twisted the knife beautifully in Jimmy/Kim. Even paid respects at the burial)

Just finished the 7 episode season of The Old Man with Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow. Nothing groundbreaking, but an easy watch.

And thus ends one of the most masterfully written and acted shows of all time.

Man, that last episode was absolutely gut wrenching.

Bob Odenkirk and Rhea Seehorn deserve every TV award that exists.

My wife and I watched “Crash Landing on You” over the past couple of weeks. Extremely charming romcom series on Netflix. The premise is that a wealthy South Korean heiress accidentally paraglides across the DMZ and falls in love with the North Korean soldier who finds her. Despite taking place mostly in North Korea, there’s kind of a “Schitt’s Creek” tone to it. Sure there’s melodrama and action and danger and whatnot but deep down it’s a very silly show with more than enough charm to get by.

Oh, and the two lead actors got married after filming the show and are now expecting their first child. So it’s got the best real-life ending a romcom can have.

There’s been debate over the rosy depiction of North Korea, and I’m not remotely qualified to weigh in on that, but I get why the producers chose to do it the way they did.

If you’re in the mood for a sappy but hilarious romcom, check it out.

I gotta say, this was the last TV show I expected to see recommended on here.

#hallyu, baby

If you liked that show you should check out the classic romantic comedy “My Sassy Girl” the original 2001 movie.

Along the same vein, my wife and I have been enjoying Extraordinary Attorney Woo on Netflix. While the depiction of an on-the-spectrum person is sanitized, it’s an interesting snapshot in the current k-drama views on Korean society.

I’m watching that with the wife too and yeah it’s very well done. Generally I don’t like these types of shows but the lead actor is killing it and they use recent issues and social topics in their cases. I can tell you they definitely have their finger on the pulse of society here.

If you want a more serious and scathing criticism of the military conscription system here in Korea I would recommend the drama DP on Netflix. It came out a little before Squid Game and was sadly overshadowed but is quite good.

Definitely not my typical tv fare, and I knew nothing about the graphic novel, but The Sandman on Netflix was very enjoyable.

That would be “The Captain”

What a series.

After the last episode I was 100% done with Jimmy/Saul/Gene. I was glad Carol Burnet used her life alert and when the cops got him in the dumpster. He was disgusting while negotiating his plea deal. The time machine talks with Mike and Walt made it clear he had ‘always been that way’. But the scene with Chuck serves as an important segue to the redemption. Oh yeah, he was once still chasing after Chuck’s approval and caring for him. And other moments in the series painted a better picture of him.

So they redeemed him and I’m ok with that. And very fitting that Kim shared the final scene because holy cow they were both fantastic.

As far as TV dramas go, I think it’s the GOAT.

Spoilers

I thought the parallels from the beginning and the end had were absolutely fantastic. We started the series with them having a cigarette together and ended the same way, and the journey in between was absolutely crazy.

And I 100 percent agree. As soon as the Gene storyline started to really come together it was so obvious that he had completely given himself over to the scheming sleazebag personality that was Saul that there wasn’t much else left. The reveal that it had only been 2 years since he’d relocated was an absolute shock, and really drove home that point.

There were lots of glimpses in to possibility of there being good left in Jimmy throughout the series, but Saul was a greaseball and Gene was just absolutely despicable.

The scenes with Mike, Walt, and Chuck did such a great job of bringing together the final twist and storyline, and added some really nice depth to everything. Peter Gould and Vince Gilligan are fucking masters of their craft.

I would pay good money for a series that just tells more stories about Mike. Jonathan Banks was born to play that role, and he was just absolutely awesome
