General Movie Thread

There’s a theory that those were former Widows training with the “new” Ten Rings at the end of Shang Chi.

Haven’t seen that yet.

Has Dune been released in the US yet? Anyone seen it? I just scored some tickets for this Friday and I’m pretty hyped up.

I think the US release is this Friday.

Separate question: do we really need yet another Batman origin movie?

What’s wrong with that? You don’t want to watch the Wayne’s murdered in slo-mo yet again?

I want to watch 8 year old Bruce snap and immediately become Batman. Little 8 year old Batman out there intimidating criminals.

Here’s something weird to throw out:

it might be a good movie

After seeing the Safdie brother’s movie, Good Time, I discovered that Robert Pattison was a pretty good actor.

Haven’t seen it, did you like the movie?

I liked it a lot. A bunch or fuckery ensues following a botched bank heist. I liked the pacing and intensity. Good characters.

He’s good in Tenet, too. Forwards or backwards.

I’m still torn on whether I liked that movie or not.

Saw the new Dune movie on HBO Max last night. It was well done and held my attention the entire 2.5 hours. If Dune was a favorite of yours growing up then I would certainly recommend the movie. For others be warned that the movie probably could have used some editing and the mysticism aspect can be eye-glazing at times. And of course the storyline seems truncated as it sets up the inevitable 100+ sequels.

Saw it last night and I agree. They did a good job streamlining the first half of the book and explaining things well. My wife, who knows nothing about Dune, was really into it and said she could follow the world building pretty easily. Also the design and cinematography were phenomenal.

I went to the movies this afternoon, for the first time since Covid. We thought about Dune, but couldn’t get tickets, so we went to the James Bond. There were 45 minutes of trailers. The movie itself was kinda ridiculous, and I’m pretty much a gullible James Bond fan. The best part of the movie is Paloma, and she’s done and gone in the first 30 minutes. I’d pay to go see another movie with her.

Ana de Armas is a fantastic actress. Her chemistry in Knives Out with Daniel Craig, and especially with Christopher Plummer in the pivotal scene, is unbelievable. Her part in NTTD was small but such a highlight.

I enjoyed Dune.

I did keep trying to refer back to the original in my mind and figure out who played who in Lynch’s version. Also, the pacing of this was so different that I kept wondering if elements from were being skipped (I have not read the book).

None of these are knocks against Villeneuve’s movie. It’s my own fault for watching Lynch’s movie too many times for my own good.
