I checked the alternatives for $3 movie day on Saturday, and interestingly, Jaws is being shown in IMAX and in 3D (not Jaws 3D, but the original Jaws, in 3D).
I have no recollection of that song or band. And I watched a little bit of MTV in 82, so if that video was on a heavy rotation, I sure don’t recall it.
I have never heard that song in my life. Thinking back to 1982, on heavy rotation in the dark, emo room of das at Casa de Shive would have been: Fock of Seagulls, Roxy Music, Psychedelic Furs, some Men at Work, Missing Persons (Dale Bozzio, yum), Ultravox, Romeo Void, XTC, Depeche Mode, INXS, Cocteau Twins, The Clash, The Fixx and the occasional ELO, as a holdover from earlier in my childhood. Not bad Down Under representation but never any Moving Pictures.
I find him to be a pretty good director but a one trick pony as an actor and when he is cast in a role that fits his limited acting ability he is good, when a role is outside of his range he is generally awful.
Under what rock did you guys live in the 80s?
There were a couple of dozen bands from Australia I was listening in the to 80s and a few others I chose not to listen to, but still never heard of Moving Pictures.
Definitely remembered it after following the link.
Interspersed between Chicago and Air Supply on KZZB , B95.
Top Gun Maverick is the movie equivalent of turning an 8 year old boy loose in the do it yourself frozen yogurt store.
Minus the stomach ache.
Tom Cruise is fucking mental.
Oh holy crap
It is known
There’s a fluff piece in today’s NYT on “Weird”, the biopic about Weird Al Yankovich starring Harry Potter. Apparently the plot line is to just make up stuff, and involves jungle combat, seduction by Madonna, and out-of-body songwriting. It sounds hilarious.
Didn’t realize Luhnow had gone into acting.
I CANNOT WAIT!
I’ve got chills.
Btw that’s Rainn Wilson as Dr Demento
And also that’s Weird Al as the record company exec.
I was in a group ski lesson with Weird Al’s nephew.
That’s as close to greatness as I’ll ever be.
How on earth did that come up? Did he have the same name? Were all of the students asked to tell a little something interesting about themselves? Was he wearing a placard?
