Tucker played 58 games compared to Springer’s 51 last year and it lists Tucker as the superior fielder by a long shot in 2020. All I’m saying is that this isn’t a good tool to determine who the better fielder is. I doubt stat cast comes into a manager’s mind when he makes a defensive substitution late in the game.
Do you see what an object of ridicule you are becoming here? Yet you keep posting?
I really didn’t expect an answer to that since it completely blows the statcast theory. I’ll stop posting on this though.
Nothing you have posted “completely blows” anything except whatever decent reputation you had before this thread.
Withdraw from this inane argument, stop posting on this threat, lick your wounds, and determine whether your reputation here is salvageable.
I doubt you can stand not having the last word. We’ll see.
I would point out that comparing CF to RF causes a couple of issues but you knew that already
You understand that Springer and Marisnick are CF and Tucker is a RF. CFs are compared to other CFs and RFs are compared to other RFs. So a RF with better numbers isn’t necessarily considered a better defender because CF has a higher threshold. That’s how analytics work.
Great post, Doyce.
How about Tucker vs 5 time gold glove winner Mookie Betts?
I knew it. Had to have the last word, didn’t you?
Jim…Is Kyle Tucker better than Roberto Clemente?
I need to know.
Probably Tucker but only because Clemente is dead
Stat cast lists Tucker at 5 and Betts at 31. Both are right fielders.
Reggie Jackson is hanging around the team, maybe he should play RF
Betts has also played 26 games in CF and 4 at 2B. He’s bad at both of those which drag his numbers down
In other EX-ASTRO news, former Astro legend Aaron Sanchez was just DFA’d by the SF Giants.
Did you see his at-bat against JR Richard in the All Star Game? He’d have no chance against today’s pitchers. Because he’s 75 years old.
Statcast is data tracked by high speed cameras. Data isn’t a theory. Data is data. My point in introducing it was to try to take a subjective argument and insert objectivity into it.
I bet if you go back and look at the statcast data, Josh Reddicks range is down from where it used to be. (I did… it is)
Will Tucker ever be the quality of right fielder Reddick was in his prime? Probably not. Is his arm as good as Reddicks was in his prime? Not likley. But right now, Reddick isn’t an upgrade over Tucker which was your assertion at the beginning.
I bet Tucker will tell you that he should have caught Toro’s home run that bounced out of his glove as he hit the wall. That happens to the best of them - like Josh Reddick against the Red Sox.
The numbers I gave are for RF only.
This gives stats for individual positions. Example: Tucker is rated 92 in CF only and Betts 63 in CF only. If you believe statcast, Tucker is a better right fielder than a 5 time gold glove winner in Betts. It’s just not an accurate way to evaluate what fielder is better.
I do remember that missed catch by Reddick. The circumstances were a little different as Reddick was in a dead sprint to the ball and wall where Tucker was camped under the ball. Both balls should have been caught.
