I always liked Mayfield and am sorry he never hit enough during his callups to stay.

I always thought Jack would be a great AAAA/ injury callup guy.
Great attitude that everyone loves but just not quite enough talent to stay in the majors. But enough to have some great games every once in a while.
It’s the nature of MLB roster rules that these players simply can’t stay in a contending organization forever.
But all teams have some and noncontending teams can keep them
Right now, the Astros have Stubbs, Robel Garcia, and several bullpen guys who fit this mold.
