apropos to nothing, Toro was 3-5 last night, but no homers. Good for him.
ETA: I am doing the Express game tonight with Capps, and the Express will honor the Austin Black Senators, which had Willie Wells for a time. I hope I remember to tape the Astros because I want to see Greinke hit. I wanted him to PH last night in the 9th. Wasting Castro for one meaningless PH AB when we have only two catchers was foolish.
I agree that saving your last catcher ( especially when you just traded your emergency catcher) is a cardinal rule.
I’m sure Grienke was begging to do it also.
The only thing I can think of is Estrada was scared.
Scared of making a move that Dusty would not/ has not done.
Scared that Grienke would injure himself hitting or running when he had not had a PA in nearly 2 years.
Giants announcers are good teachers, like ours, teaching about the game as they work.
They observed that this was the 1st time all year they had faced a team w/ only three regulars on the bench… They attributed it to roster transition, w/ 2 pitchers just arriving from trades, bringing the bullpen to 10.
I also wondered about a Grienke PH, keeping Castro in reserve.
Who was the emergency catcher?
Fuck the Giants’ announcers, Snuffy, Why in hell do you think anyone here cares what they said? Did you know you can listen to the Astros’ radio broadcast instead of the opponents’ broadcast?
Via the MLB radio app, I sometimes listen to the other team’s broadcast, but strictly for entertainment purposes. I guess the most newsworthy thing I have gleaned by such an activity is that I usually come away thinking that Ford and Sparks are really good.
Not my point. On road trips, I would listen to games no matter who is broadcasting.
You do not come here incessantly to tell us what they said about this or that. I do not care whose broadcast you listen to, but I cannot imagine many here care what they say or think,
I didn’t like using Castro there either, but this is what happens when you have 15 pitchers on your active roster for a NL game. It will be alleviated some tonight when Meyers gets there and we get back down to 14 arms. But for comparison, the Giants are carrying 13 pitchers. They will still have an extra option off the bench. We just better hope none of these games go deep into extra innings.
Edit: TECHNICALLY speaking I guess we only had 14 pitchers on roster since Raley was suspended but we didn’t replace his absence last night with a bat so we were an “extra” man down.
