If he’d opted for TJ surgery, a non-tender was guaranteed, as he would not have played at all in his final year of team control. The rest/rehab option kept open the possibility that the Astros might be desperate enough to pay him $10M via arbitration.

Placing him on outright waivers right now (instead of waiting until the non-tender deadline on Dec. 2) gives him the longest possible opportunity to find anyone who is willing to take a risk on him. That timing might also telegraph some tough 40-man roster decisions for Rule 5 draft purposes.

This may be a little old for some folks, but “Dr. Nick” was Elvis Presley’s personal physician and pill mill. The Simpsons character of Dr. Nick Riviera, Quack M.D., and graduate of the dubious Hollywood Upstairs Medical College, is named in his “honor”.

Dr Seuss.

If I read this right, Rogelio Armenteros is headed to the Mexican Leagues

Dominican league. He’s had his Covid test and everything.

The real hidden gem here is the name Oneil Cruz.

Classic Irish Dominican.

He’s developed well.

Brandon Barnes has announced his retirement after spending last season in Korea. We got to know Brandon when he was in Gville back in 2005 & 06. Always impressed with his drive. He hit .200 his first season in rookie ball and .220 his second year. I never thought he would have a 15 year pro career and play in the Majors for 3 teams.
