Musk emailed everyone that they needed to go “hardcore” and work 24/7 to right the ship. They had to opt in or they would be deemed to have resigned.
Reports claim that only about a quarter of employees opted in by the deadline earlier today. So, if true, Twitter will have gone from about 8,000 staff when Musk took over to about 1,000 now.

Denizens of Twitter are holding an ad hoc vigil for the site tonight, not expecting it to last and expecting it to fail at any moment.
The staff lock out is until Nov 21 so, if anything happens between then and now, there won’t be anyone around even to stick a band aid on it.
