COVID-19

Texas posted its 3rd straight day with over 2,000 new cases, which are the state’s three worst days for new cases.

I hope everyone is looking forward to Lockdown Part Deux.

I will be shocked if any state with a Republican governor attempts anything resembling a lockdown again.

Harris Co. may try. Someone has to try and keep people alive.

Dr. Strangelove will have something to say about that.

Abbott does not have the guts to do a lockdown again even if he should to save lives.

Given the current numbers (never mind the numbers in a week’s time or two weeks…) it’s clear that the state should never have lifted the lockdown. The thing is, they simply don’t care. As long as it’s not country club members dying in serious numbers, they literally do not give a shit.

This is the ugly undercurrent. As long as mainly black and brown people are dying, Trump and his supporters see it as a win.

When people can’t get the bodies of their dead relatives out of their houses there will be another shutdown. Not before.

Didn’t Abbott’s statewide order basically render any city/county stay-home orders toothless? I’m pretty sure it said that local orders can not override (i.e. have more restrictions than) the state order.

That is what I think it said, but Austin’s mayor ain’t listening.

Right. Someone would have to sue to overturn an order, correct?

No real enforcement of the Mayor’s orders so we are all depending on discipline and responsible behavior.

you sound like my grandson saying the naughtie word

I live in the Arboretum area and tons of people are out walking, going to starbucks, in line for trader joes. My youngest went to the water park today in Pflugerville and she said it was pretty crowded…

Stylists with COVID wore masks. Everyone else wore masks, no one else got it.

Seems to me that we can (almost) let people do whatever they want as long as wearing a mask is required.

Yo, only communists wear masks!

So, Fucked then.

Hong Kong has a population density akin to a tube train during rush hour, and has a total of 4 deaths from COVID-19. FOUR!

Totally unrelated, everyone in Hong Kong wears masks.

Yeah and I get paid close to $100 an hour to do it plus many of my students are executives at large corporations so they love taking me out to fancy restaurants on the company dime.

They must have shut down travel from China.

That’s how we function in Seoul. You can’t get on a bus or take a train without a mask. Most places won’t let you in without a mask. They check your temperature and there’s always a table with 4 or 5 bottles of hand sanitizer. There’s hand sanitizer in the public elevator near my apartment and pretty much every public space you can imagine. Hand sanitizer is so necessary the soju companies started producing it back in February. And it’s hot as balls now in Seoul so wearing a mask outside is my least favorite thing to do right now but we’re all still doing it. The only time we relax a bit with the mask outdoors is if there aren’t people around.
