COVID-19

Two industries will survive, no matter what kind of Biblical plague besets us: gambling and prostitution. Vegas will be fine.

No doubt gambling and prostitution will continue regardless, I just question how many people will want to congregate shoulder to shoulder touching the same dice, cards, chips and slot machines as everyone else. Prostitution is not legal in Clark County so that industry may not change much in Las Vegas, except fewer (if any) conventions.

Construction is at nearly a standstill in Vegas. If the casinos fill back up, construction may rebound. I donā€™t, however, envision people traveling across the country to share the indoor air with large crowds of other people; at least not in great numbers.

They are re-opening the casinos with significantly reduced capacity and staff. I am skeptical of success.

Thatā€™s like saying that if we announced that smoking crack was bad for you, everyone would suddenly stop smoking crack. Gamblers are going to gamble, no matter what the risks are. They donā€™t gamble to pass the time because they have nothing better to do.

Likewise, the legality of prostitution is irrelevant. People want to fuck, and are willing to pay for it, even when the government says they canā€™t.

The split screen yesterday was disgusting. Someone combined the two for ease of reference.

As has been said many times, thereā€™s always a tweet.

Of course they are going to gamble. The can do it online. They donā€™t have to gather by the thousands in a casino to do it.

You think people will pack the casinos in Las Vegas, I disagree. We shall see.

People can eat at home, yet they are packing restaurants. People will gather where gambling is legal. It may take a while, but they will come. I have many friends who are planning a big Vegas trip as soon as it opens. Iā€™m sure they are not unique. As you say, we shall see.

For the record, Trump is golfing today, rather than going to a church which he has insisted on being open.

Church is for those who are not as close to God as Trump is.

One thing Trumps trip to the Ford factory accomplished was shining a light on what a piece of shit Henry Ford was. A true deplorable.

I didnā€™t know any of that about Ford, for some reason it was something our history books skipped over.

Iā€™m sure the Ford Motor Company was very pleased that Trump brought it up.

They skipped over Prescott Bush, too.

I donā€™t really give a shit about presidents playing golf. Iā€™m not even sure I care about how much golf Trump has played during his tenure. But for all of the shit he talked about Obama playing golf, Trump deserves at least that much shit talked about him.

But Trump donates his salary. Thatā€™s what makes him allowed to play golf.

Some MAGAt was on the national news tonight, proudly bedecked in his de rigeur Trump hat, loudly proclaiming that the virus is just a hoax and this whole thing is about control. That is some Grade A denial there.

I am in the middle of Trump country here in Alabama. I donā€™t see anyone being as cavalier as the folks they put on TV. This is one of the reasons I have stopped watching most TV news. They are trying to get ratings, not provide information. I rarely hear a rational person interviewed on TV.

One example of reasonableness: Our church did a survey of the congregation about coming back together to meet. We are a conservative, evangelical church with an aging population with over 500 members. Only 1/3 of the people said they didnā€™t have anxiety about coming back together to worship. And over 90% said that they agreed that the clearer the church could be on expectation, boundaries and acceptable behavior the better. Our church has been meeting virtually since mid March and will continue to meet virtually for worship at least through June.

Good for your church, but please do not suggest this is some sort of media conspiracy against poor Donald. There are a million examples of churches doing the opposite and folks flooding bars and beaches like it is all a hoax.

Weā€™re going to hit 100,000 deaths today (if we havenā€™t already).
