Correa Re-Signing: Will He or Won't He?

W T F ???

There has to be more to this right? If not Click and Crane look awful.

Guessing he must be thinking of opting out after the 1st year. Why not go back to Houston for 1 more year and actually compete? Surely Crane and Click could have surpassed this contract with the Twins? Minnesota is going nowhere. I have no words.

Fucking hell?

Exactly my thoughts.

Enjoy that draft pick everyone.

Ouch.

Crane is NOT cheap but it’s a very strange move (or non-move).

I’d guess that yes, it is probable he opts out next year but not a guarantee. Depends on the kind of year he has. The free agent shortstop market next year is going to be deep, which is why he certainly has the opt out after the second year as well. I’d guess off the top of my head that Crane didn’t want to potentially do $35M for multiple years??? The Twins, who had plenty of salary room after shedding Donaldson, obviously could afford this. It’s just my opinion, but I disagree with your “Minnesota is going nowhere” stance. I think this move alone positions them very well to fight for the playoffs in the new expanded format. This one move transforms their team and extends their overall depth making a quality hitter like Luis Aarez their utility guy and DH when Sanchez catches. They need another pitcher and with a deep farm system could easily land Montas or Manea from the A’s. They will be one of the top defensive teams in the league and their pitching will benefit from that. The batting order with Correa, provided he and Buxton can stay off the DL, is gonna put up some big numbers, and don’t be stunned if Gary Sanchez, now out of the spotlight of NY, is a candidate for come back player of the year. He will never be a quality defensive catcher, but their batting order with him in it, is going to be powerful. They won’t overtake the White Sox, but if they get one more arm I don’t think finishing ahead of the Tigers and making the playoffs is far fetched. If I’m a Twins fan, I’m excited about this….
Aarez DH/Utility
Buxton CF
Correa SS
Polonco 2B
Sanchez/Jeffers C/DH
Kepler RF
Sano 1B
Urshela 3B
Larnach/Kirillof LF

Now, do we pivot to Trevor Story or stick with the Peña/Diaz/Goodrum plan???

Well shit.

Depressing.

I guess I’m glad it’s over.

Guess i was wrong.

Even considering how weak his market was looking, that’s shockingly low. I can’t imagine Crane didn’t beat that. Fuck.

Maybe he gets free tater tot hot dish and walleye.

It seemed inevitable so I tried to not hold out hope. Still sucks.

Minnesota may not have a helmet big enough for his head

This is a very, very Boras contract. In retrospect, should have known he was gone the moment he went to Boras.

What wonderful news to wake up to.

You know when players say “it’s not about the money”, and you know it’s only about the money? This is Correa actually being not about the money. He simply no longer wanted to play for the Astros.

I do not put Springer and Correa in the same room with Cole. Cole has a special rung all to himself.
