They made him a qualifying offer
Seems like a good sign that talks are progressing with Carlos:
I’m sure if the Astros sign Correa, that will change.
No offense to young Jeremy, whom I’m sure will try to make the best out of any opportunity he’s given, but at this point I’m counting on it.
Did not see that coming.
I wonder if it is Boras blowing smoke to get the ball rolling
I believe it, but does Carlos want to go to a team that will have a tough time competing in that division and making the playoffs for the next several years?
I don’t know.
They just signed Odor. That has to be tempting for Carlos.
Agent Elias has clearly misunderstood his mission.
A guy who knows a guy who knows a guy, who the first guy says is usually right, says Correa’s coming back on a one-year deal.
So we have to do this all over again next year?
If it means he plays like last year and stays healthy I’ll take it…
ETA: OTOH, he might be more inclined to sign an extension mid-season if things are going well after experiencing this market.
The market next year will be significantly more active than this past offseason during the lockout. That said, I agree about this year…I’ll gladly take another year from him.
I wonder if it’d be a true one-year deal or something more like the B*uer contract.
Likely a 5 or 6 year deal with an optout after year 1 and year 3 or something
What do u base this on?
I’ve read that Correa would likely want the security of the 5 or 6 years but the option of getting back on the market after 1. The second opt-out is my own wild speculation if Carlos doesn’t like the way things shape up after year 1 then he can opt-in and still have the option of getting back on the market at 30 for 1 last big payday
Wow… what in the hell are Correa and the Astros thinking? Beyond disgusted with this. He turns down $160mm for 5 years. You have to think Crane upped that offer with the most recent offer. Unbelievable.
