Tech fans showing their class last night. UT had to have a police escort to get to the gym for a shootaround today.
My dad was as big a Red Raider fan as there could be. He was a Saddle Tramp in the '40s, for god’s sake. We had season tickets to everything. But he would be disgusted by that bullshit. What the hell.
The Tech coach and his team have done a great job, and the Raiders likely will win tonight. I am confident the coach will control his team, but I hope the administration can keep this hooliganism out of the arena. I also hope if anything is thrown on the floor or at players, Beard will take his team off the floor.
There is absolutely no place for this kind of stuff in sports.
Auburn with a statement win against rival Alabama tonight 100-81.
In Big XII results tonight:
Kansas defeats Iowa State 70-61 in Ames. Kansas regains form after being worked by Kentucky on Saturday. Texas Tech defeats Texas 77-64 before a raucous, respectful crowd in Lubbock.
Yesterday TCU beat Oklahoma 72-63 in Norman and Baylor beat West Virginia 81-77 in Waco.
In Lubbock, “respectful” means that when they tear down the goals they decide not to ram them into the visitor section.
Did something specific happen during or after the game? Or is it just a general slur on Tech fans and alumni?
Part general slur, part humorous callback to the infamous TTU/TAMU game from the early 2000s.
I don’t care much about these things, but I’m pretty sure there were many “fuck UT” chants throughout the game.
BTW, to be clear, I may be a Texas fan but I don’t give a shit about basketball and didn’t watch the game. My only purpose here is to shitpost.
It’s a damn good thing you didn’t watch.
What an absolute dumpster fire of a game by the refs. At the half, UT had zero free throw attempts to Tech’s 11.
Tech wins without help from the refs, but what a pathetic gift wrap this entire game was.
I waited with interest to see what the Tech cheerleader would post here. “Respectful” crowd. Ha! To me there is no difference between the Tech obscene gestures and chants of “Fuck Chris Beard” and “Fuck UT” and the NYY animals’ chants of “Fuck Altuve.” None.
Tech has a very good team and looks to be better than Texas. Adams has done well replacing Beard. Chris Beard is a main reason Tech has risen to national prominence. He did not deserve the profane abuse he got in Lubbock. Congrats to the Tech team. Good win. Back at you to the Tech hooligans.
I look forward to seeing Tech play in Austin. Adams and his team will not need a police escort to get to the arena here.
PS The post deleted above was this one. I wanted it to be a general post, not a reply to Mark.
Obanor was a great transfer pickup for Tech.
After the first three or four times a Tech weak-side defender slipped over along the baseline to steal the ball from an oblivious UT post, I figured they would catch on. I was wrong.
It was the third time this year the Longhorns had zero first half free throws.
Beard congratulated Tech during the post game news conference, but emphasized that it was a home win for Tech in early February. He was right to do so. It doesn’t matter for conference standing or really even for NCAA seeding unless a team wins both home and away. Home wins are the norm in the Big XII. Tech travels to Austin for a February 19th game.
The best thing about watching Tech this year is the improvement in play since the beginning of the season. If Terrance Shannon can get healthy and integrated into the offence, they may go deep in March.
It’s a full slate for Big XII basketball today:
Oklahoma at Oklahoma State
Iowa State at Texas
Texas Tech at West Virginia
Baylor at Kansas
Kansas State at TCU
Texas crushes Iowa State at home 63-41.
Texas Tech gets a tough road victory at West Virginia 60-53.
Oklahoma State beats Oklahoma 64-55 in Stillwater.
UT absolutely destroyed them in the 2nd half.
Baylor getting rock-chalked at Kansas.
You Tech people are always ragging on Baylor.
