The shame of losing the SEC tournament game to UT was too much.
Got my tickets for Saturday. We opted to do Airbnb, staying out in NW SA for Friday/Saturday. If we beat Duke we will reassess location and hope some hotels in town open up.
Wasn’t able to make the Covid FF but no way I was missing this one.
Mind if I ask the going rate for tickets? I’ve heard they were very high. I have accommodations, but unsure about forking over for the tickets. I went to the FF in Houston in 2023, but tickets were cheap. I think I got both semi-final games for $80, could have gotten the final for an additional $45. But that was UConn, San Diego St., Miami, and Florida Atlantic. Something tells me this one will draw more interest.
I got them thru the school so face value. Well, my friend who donates a lot to the school got them the be exact, he’s letting me and my wife use 2 of his tix.
It’s good to be the king.
As much as I’d love to go, I’ve decided not to attend the games in person. I’m just going to watch it on TV. This cancer treatment I had on Monday takes about 8 to 10 days to lose the nausea and fatigue, and to get back to normal. Combine that with the pain in my right hip and femur, and 35,000 people or more, it’s just becomes too much to deal with. But fuck, I hope the Coogs win.
Friends with the king works too…

Seat Geek has fair prices.

On Tuesday I bought tickets off seat geek for just the Saturday games. The ones I got were $400 for the 4th row of the top deck, so it looks like prices have actually creeped up a bit since then. I’m sure they’ll fall on Friday/Saturday morning but maybe not as considerably as I initally assumed.
I got what appears to be the last available hotel room in town where the room door doesn’t open up to an access road. Luckily it’s just five minutes from Henry’s Puffy Taco’s.
Chris Beard, has decided to stay with the Rebels, turning down the Texas A&M job offer. He used the Aggies’ interest to leverage a significant pay raise and increased NIL funds at Ole Miss, reportedly matching the nearly $7 million per year offer from Texas A&M.
Trev Alberts seems like he kida sucks at the AD thing
Question for those with SA experience. We plan on ubering into town on Saturday afternoon. We would like to hit up 2-3 places as we make our way towards the Marriott Rivercenter accross from the convention center, for the UH team send off. After that we will walk the 15 minutes over to the Alamadome.
Any restaurant/bar/pub recommendations. Im not a huge fan of the Riverwalk, but Im guessing that is likely going to be what we are stuck with.
Don’t miss The Esquire Bar (longest wooden bar top in Texas). Best cocktails in San Antonio and the vibe is also great, although it’s on the other end of the River Walk from the Alamodome. A bit closer is the Menger Hotel and Bar (the oldest in San Antonio). Teddy Roosevelt recruited a number of the Rough Riders here and they still have quite a bit of ephemera on display.
ETA - there’s a couple of really good wine bars not far away from the Alamodome:
- Little Death on N St. Marys
- High Street Wine Co. in the Pearl Brewery redevelopment
No help in the downtown area, but the two breweries not to miss in SA are Roadmap and Kunstler.
Hopefully some’a y’all are in the market for a hat.
I second this.
If you’re sticking close to the Riverwalk, I’ll second the Esquire. I never mind jury duty, because I get a chance to visit. It’s not a bad walk from there to the Marriott–ten minutes and a straight shot.
If you’re willing to take a short hop Uber, you’ll find better food/drinks at the Pearl (Mike is correct about High Street Wine) or down in Southtown/King William.
Restaurants…
Cured and Ladino are in the Pearl Brewery. Haven’t been to the latter, but it’s from the Emmer & Rye Hospitality Group who’ve done some seriously good things in Austin. The former is inevitably a go to whenever I’m in SA visiting my mom. Get the charcuterie.
Also highly recommend Maverick and Carriqui, which if they aren’t considered downtown they’re pretty goddamn close. One of the best meals I’ve had in Texas, and certainly San Antonio, was at Maverick. Carriqui’s cuisine is inspired by the Rio Grande Valley and the bar serves an outstanding margarita.
I agree with all of what Mike said. Except, well, my mom is in Fort Worth. But this weekend, be prepared for huge crowds and wait times.
ETA: Also adding to the crowds, San Antonio is also hosting The Valero Texas Open is this week.
Ladino is crazy good. They have an entree of lamb belly ribs that is fucking awesome.
