Arkansas up 5-3 in the bottom of the ninth. Runners on first and second with one out. Perfect double play ball right to the shortstop, and for some unknown reason he throws to third for the force. 2 outs instead of game over. Next barter it’s a line drive to left that the left fielder should’ve caught but it goes off his shoulder and LSU scores 2 to tie.
Why would you pitch to that guy?
To complete the total meltdown?
Arkansas shortstop will have to live with that forever. Poor guy. Tailor made DP.
Worst thing about it is there’s no game tomorrow.

The juxtaposition of the inarticulate Jones intoning “God is good” with the image of the Arky left fielder weepingly escorted off the field by his teammates was priceless in a painful way. Like a needle to the eye.

In the Auburn super regional, Coastal Carolina 2nd baseman made great diving catches in the 9th inning and 10th innings of game 2. Without those two catches, Coastal doesn’t sweep Auburn.
Last night, the Arkansas 2nd baseman (I think, they shift a bunch) had the ball go off the top of his glove. If he catches it, Arkansas survives for extra innings with a chance to stave off elimination.
Baseball is also a game of inches.

Against Arizona, Coastal hit a double in the bottom of the eighth that JUST hit the chalk on an 0-2 pitch in the dirt with two outs. Earlier, in the bottom of the second, Coastal mishits a pop up bunt that jars out of the glove of Arizona’s diving pitcher. Take away those two plays and Arizona very likely beats Cinderella. Baseball really is a game of (heartbreaking) inches.

Absolutely, and I certainly wasn’t trying to diminish what they’ve done. In that top of the eighth of Game 1, they strung together some remarkable at bats to break Arizona’s back. Wasn’t just luck (although that obviously helped).
For the record, I’m rooting for the asteroid in the finals.

He was pointing out that the HPU’s strike zone was whack. He made three horrible strike calls on breaking pitches that were well outside the plate (and probably high, to boot). Blue has to know those were bad calls and he needs to give some leeway. Instead he looks like he’s in the tank for LSU.
